How to get to CDMX over Dec. holidays for cheap?

Based in the Bay Area but willing to fly just about anywhere for a cheap connection. We can leave from SoCal if necessary. We want to be in CDMX from the 22nd through the end of December; possibly the first few days into the new year. In other words, we need to travel over the 2-3 week stretch when all the airlines quadruple their fares. Is there any affordable way to do it?

Edit: I see on skiplagged that there's a few CDMX connections on the way to Cabo for somewhat reasonable one-way fares... would we be able to bring carry-ons or is that a risk? We obviously couldn't check luggage if we're skipping the second leg, but we'd need more than we can fit into a backpack for the amount of time we're going...

If you are willing to get yourself to San Diego you can use the Border Crossing with CBX | Cross Border Xpress to fly from Tijuana's international airport. I just checked Google flights, and Aeromexico has a round trip TIJ-MEX departing late night 22-Dec returning 4-Jan for US$111 https://www.google.com/travel/flight...BBAPPKGZNw2kw8

Solid advice. It's very easy to use the Tijuana Airport following El Cochinito 's advice. It is a pleasant, modern airport and the bridge is simple to use.

I'm not real sure of the question. We've flow AeroMexico a number of times from Tijuana. We've always had carry on baggage. There are other budget carriers whom we have not flown. I am unsure of their baggage policy.

Thank you both for the suggestions! We're considering the Tijuana angle, but my girlfriend is job searching now so we'll need to wait a bit to see if she can get the extra time off work since it adds at least a full day. It might even be worth using my Alaska miles to fly from SF to San Diego.

Re. the baggage question, I was referring to the skiplagged route where we'd essentially skip out on the final flight, making the connection/layover the destination. My concern was with respect to overhead cabin space and the risk of getting our luggage checked. This probably isn't relevant anyhow since the San Diego-Tijuana plan seems a lot easier and more likely.

Thanks again for the help!
