I'm new to MR and have never had status with them before. However tomorrow I will have accrued 25 nights all as part of an extended stay for this year. I am scheduled for the remainder of this month to be at the same hotel.

It is my understanding that I will not earn my points until I check out of the hotel. Is that the same with accruing nights towards elite status? If I pass the 10 night stay for silver will I start earning the 20% bonus as of the 11th night or only on my next stay?

If I have to wait can I do a checkout checkin to start earning the bonus?

Your 10 nights have to be registered and "processed" before you will be upgraded to Silver. And you have to be Silver before you get the bonus. What some here do when they have a long stay and know they will reach an elite milestone during that stay, is to have the hotel do a check-out/in just after they have the nights to reach that milestone. So in your case, you would have asked the hotel to check you out and in just after your 10th night. That way, you would receive your bonus for the rest of the nights of your stay.

Do you have the Marriott Premier Visa CC? It gives you 15 nights toward elite status. So if you can get that card, all you need is another 10 nights and you will have Gold status (and CL access at FS properties.)

Thanks for the info about the visa card. I'm going to be doing so much travel this year that I'll hit Platinum by end of March.
