Your 10 nights have to be registered and "processed" before you will be upgraded to Silver. And you have to be Silver before you get the bonus. What some here do when they have a long stay and know they will reach an elite milestone during that stay, is to have the hotel do a check-out/in just after they have the nights to reach that milestone. So in your case, you would have asked the hotel to check you out and in just after your 10th night. That way, you would receive your bonus for the rest of the nights of your stay.

Do you have the Marriott Premier Visa CC? It gives you 15 nights toward elite status. So if you can get that card, all you need is another 10 nights and you will have Gold status (and CL access at FS properties.)
