Need some help with guaranteed room preference

Hello All:

I am trying to book two rooms using the M11 code and I am trying to confirm the 2nd room to have 2 double beds but it is saying this isn't available at this time. I had a look at what was available without M11 and a room with 2 double beds shows that it can be booked. Should I call the Plat line? Property is Marriott East Side......any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

I don't personally know what the M11 code is, but it sounds like that rate is not available for a room with two beds. The hotel probably sold enough rooms with two beds for the night you're looking to stay to make that discounted rate unavailable. Once again, I'm not exactly sure what M11 is, so I may be wrong on the reason, but more than likely that is the reason.

I would recommend calling the hotel directly to see if they will offer the room at that rate. It depends on the policy of the specific hotel and how discounted the rate is. Just let them know what rate you were looking for. When I was a front desk rep, I would almost always override that for an elite member, especially a platinum. I don't know if the platinum line would be able to help other than call the hotel on your behalf, but I do know regular reservations wouldn't be able to give you the rate if the hotel shows it's unavailable. Call the hotel directly and see if they will give you that courtesy since you are an elite member.

Well, if you are Gold or Plat, then you'll get the room you want. Give them a call. Luckily, your hotel is in the US so you'll get the guaranteed room pref. Marriott has pulled the plug on the guaranteed room pref for non-US hotels. Another "enhancement" to the program.

Don't count on the Platinum Override

Don't put to much stock into the guaranteed room availability. The guarantee is that a room will be available if a reservation exists, it does not guarantee that you will be able to make a reservation (like Hilton's). My team and I (all platinum's) were recently denied a reservation at the Calgary Marriott because of a "Blackout Date". The verbage on the reply email they sent me in part is below. Then they recommended that we try one of there competitors. Well guess what for a one week "Blackout Date" we moved our three room reservations from January to February to the Fairmont.

"The guarantee mentioned below is if you did get a platinum override and when you showed up the room was note there."
