Check Cashing Limits????

Does anyone know if the limits have been changed (downward) re cashing a check at Marriott properties. I was told today that the limit is now $50.

Are you in the US? I have seen some differences in the limits when staying at Marriotts in other countries. But other than that, it sounds like you have may have a rogue front desk associate trying to make up their own rules (or possibly a rogue hotel manager.)

Well, rogue probably covers it when they process a PP as a charge.....although it certainly felt as if I was on another planet during my stay, the hotel in question is in Harrisburg, PA......

There used to be a fairly nice FS property close to the airport. I used to like stay there, but I think it is a Sheraton now.

It is a Sheraton now, and is not bad.

And re the CY selection - my choices were a RI or FI - both old. There is a new TPS - but still think I will do the FS in Hunt Valley MD and drive up..this past week the rate for HV FS and the TPS was the same.

These last 2 stays were not my selection - but in the event "not my selection" happens again I will sleep in the car............

sounds like a standard non-elite limit...did they know you were elite and check cashing was one of your benefits?

Doesn't it also vary by brand, i.e. the limit is highest at a Ren or FS, and it works down from there?

I like the benefit; lets me avoid ATM fees.

socrates - yes. they knew I was plat. in fact, when I reminded them of it, they said "oh, the rules have changed for everyone." hmmm...

megtravels - YES I was at that stupid CY again. Go back and read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=876110 for the latest - and as hhoope1 says...it would be funny if it were not so ridiculous. Honestly, I feel like I am getting punked by this hotel!

And what was really funny (in retrospect) is that the desk clerk asked me how much I wanted - I said $200. He said, oh no, you can only have $50. NOW - do people who are out of town and need cash really ask to cash a check for less than $50? Like how would an extra $15 help you out?

this hotel is run by Columbia Sussex...obviously training is low on their list of priorities.

It seems more like following rules is a low priority. I think a complaint to Marriott HQ is needed.

Was the hotel very busy or was it at an off business hour (like 1am)?

I've had a few situations where I've had to limit check cashing to my guests due to so many requesting it in a small period of time.

Working overnights I only have $300 in my drawer, during the day, between the managers banks and the FD, there's about $1000. If the accounting department's not in, there's no way for the hotel to get cash from our outside bank on short notice, so we have had to limit check cashing privileges. Of course we would let the guest know we would be able to accommodate them later in the morning.

But the desk agent shouldn't have told you the limits were changed, you should have printed out your benefits page and handed it to them.

Your comments make perfect sense and if any of those situations were in place I would have understood..but they were not.

And as your comments further indicate...what is the most disturbing is that I was told an untruth.
