socrates - yes. they knew I was plat. in fact, when I reminded them of it, they said "oh, the rules have changed for everyone." hmmm...
megtravels - YES I was at that stupid CY again. Go back and read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=876110 for the latest - and as hhoope1 says...it would be funny if it were not so ridiculous. Honestly, I feel like I am getting punked by this hotel!
And what was really funny (in retrospect) is that the desk clerk asked me how much I wanted - I said $200. He said, oh no, you can only have $50. NOW - do people who are out of town and need cash really ask to cash a check for less than $50? Like how would an extra $15 help you out?
this hotel is run by Columbia Sussex...obviously training is low on their list of priorities.

who uses checks on the road anymore? or anywhere?

Actually you can subsitite "cash" instead of "checks" for me. I've become such a credit card point whore that I can go entire weeks of trips without using cash other than for tips. The check cashing feature is something I might use instead of ATM's in the future.

What to do
I run into this problem every so often.
A particular hotel (usually a CY) will say they can only do $50, despite being a platinum.
Besides sending a nasty-gram to CS, what else can you do?
It is not part of any guarantee, so there is no real penalty if they do not honor this part of the program.
