Only using 1 night of a 2 night reservation

I have any upcoming 2 night reservation ($129 / nt). I called the elite line to change it to 1 night and the rate went up to $210 / nt. They called the front desk and said that was correct and they could not honor the $129 for 1 night.

Can someone explain how this works? It does not specifically state in the reservation that its a 2 night minimum.

My plan is to check in and change my departure date to the next day Ill see what happens.

What are the rate rules?

Some promotional rates require a minimum stay while others, for example, may require you to stay over a Saturday night. If you don't meet the terms of the rules then the rate reverts back to the rack rate.

Is this a weekend rate? If you are staying a Thurs-Fri and taking off the Friday portion or a Sat-Sun and taking off Saturday then the rate would most likely revert to the standard weekday rate.

This would be my guess.

I hope that the OP is prepared for the possibility of an expensive surprise.

For weekend stays, 2 nights are better than 1 if you have a shoulder night (Thursday or Sunday).

It was a Fri - Sat reservation.

UPDATE:
At check in there was no issue in changing the check out date -- got the folio with the correct rate on the way out.
