EEO Date Confusion

I'm not sure if I'm totally confused or something has changed...A couple of months ago I was looking at the EEO offers and saw that there were to BOGO weekend deals - one for Renaissance and one for Marriott. I had a reservation already in place in Pittsburgh in late October, but with the BOGO at the Ren, it would be cheaper to stay at the nicer hotel. So I called, changed the reservation, and booked Sat & Sunday at the Ren, confirming that the EEO certificate would work that weekend (Steeler's home game).

I was just checking some other reservations and thought that I should print the EEO while I was online...but now I can't find it anywhere. There is a BOGO for Ren., but it says the offer expires on Oct. 5th (three weeks before my stay), and I don't see one at all for Marriott properties.

What happened? Am I mistaken about the dates on the offers? Is there an offer out there that I just cannot see/find? (I did note that eBay has the BOGO certs for auction (shame!), and they say they are good through Oct. 31st, which is the date I remember, so I don't think I'm crazy)

Confused,
firepit

I see both the Marriott and the Ren BOGO EEOs on the 2nd of 4 pages of Plat Offers. Both of them show an October 5, 2008 expiration. I haven't used or looked at their expiration dates recently, so I can't help with answering if those dates have changed or not.

Maybe you will get lucky and they will update the EEOs with a new set that expires at the end of the year. But I would plan on a alternative set of plans just in case that doesn't happen.

There should be a couple in your booklet that arrived with your card. The booklet had coupons for the full year with various expiration dates up to Jan xx 2009.

Or, you could wait til Oct. 6th for the new ones to be posted online.

As far as I remember they expired on 10/5.

The problem is that the ones after wont begin on 10/6 and might not begin at all until sometime in Nov. There is usually something like 3-4 weeks between when 1 period ends and the next starts

Could very well be that the CSR knows the start up date for the ones after these expire and the dates you need it for will be within it.Or they could have simply gone along with whatever you said and didnt check and the new ones wont start till Nov something

Id call MR and see what you can find out, also have a back-up plan ready, in case MR tells you you are SOL

The original online certificates did expire on October 31 which is when the next set was set to start. Obviously MR caught this and corrected it. If you have a printout of the original certificate that was posted online you should still be able to use it. If not as craz said, you're probably SOL...

Well that kinda sucks....I'm pretty sure that's what happened. They said the 31st, I booked, then they changed. But no, I didn't print out the paperwork at that time. I guess I'll call MR and see what we can do.

I know that some folks seem (or at least sound like) they have routinely bad experiences with the folks at MR, but once again, they've been great to me.

I was bounced over to the customer service folks and I explained the problem...but it's hard because I'm essentially saying "some folks online said that the date changed..." Fortunately, the woman I was speaking with said that she recalled an e-mail about that and then went hunting. Sure enough, as Bulldog said, they did have to change the date. And they did, to their credit, send at email to their CRs about the change.

I was on hold for a minute or two, and then when the rep came back she said that they've had a few calls from folks in my situation and they are working on a solution. She made sure my contact info was correct and said that I would either here back from her directly later today, or from an escalation group in the next couple of days. I don't know how this will all work out yet, but I'm confident that they're trying to do right, and for now, that's enough.

EEO Date Confusion -> Resolution

^
Every single person I talked with was helpful and apologetic, and they freely admitted that this was Marriott's mistake while assuring me that they were doing their best to work out a solution. I called to check the status of this earlier this morning and was told that they should have some sort of resolution this afternoon. Less than an hour later, I got a call from Molly who said that what they are going to do is credit my account with enough points to cover the room for one night, then automatically issue a certificate to cover the night -- same outcome as using the EEO, but without any date confusions.

In my mind this is a perfect solution. No worries about the EEO date, no effort or additionally bookkeeping on my part, and no hassle. Well done, Marriott!
