Anyone have a MR signup promotion code?
I need to sign my partner up for an MR account. Does anyone know of any current signup promotion codes? (She's plat on AA and 2P on UA, if either of those make a difference)
Thanks!

The only promotion of which I am aware is the Refer Friends and Family, thru Marriott itself. This requires a current member to refer your partner; who then would receive an extra (bonus) 1K points on each of her first year stays. The same would apply to the referring member.
If you have a friend or FT buddy who has a Marriott account, they just go to the MR website and sign them up. If, for some reason, you do not, I would be happy to do it for you. I can always use the points!
(and you do not have to give anyone sensitive information to do it.........)

Expired or not?
Sorry to bump this aging thread, but does anyone know whether the referral bonus has been extended? The page is still there and still works, but the March 31, 2008 expiration date hasn't been changed. I referred my wife and everything was processed normally--but just like others have reported regarding the BA instant gold promo she couldn't create online access. (Maybe the problem is common to all signups through the joinmarriottrewards web site versus the regular marriott web site?)

e. BA Executive Club, gives Marriott Gold. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...052&highlight=
Similar promos with AF/KLM Flying Miles and Silver with CX are also ongoing

Seeing as nobody had an answer to the 31-March-2008 expiry issue, Marriott Concierge Marie kindly looked into this question. Apparently it is an ongoing promotion and the references to a 31-March deadline (on both the web site and the Emails that referrals generate) are incorrect.
Note that when signing up through referrals or other promotions handled by joinmarriottrewards.com, you have to wait 48 hours before you can create a login password to view and manage your account online. The "Welcome" Email currently encourages you to create online access without mentioning the 48 hour delay. This 48 hour delay does not apply to regular signups made at marriott.com, because that registration page has a mandatory section called "Sign In Information" which enables online access at the same time that it creates your MR account. Phone representatives, however, will not be able to easily find your information until about 48 hours later, regardless of which site you use to join.
Many thanks to Marie for her patience and efforts getting to the bottom of this question.
Incidentally, it appears it may be possible to use both the referral and Cathay or BA promotions for maximum initial signup benefit.

Sorry to hear about that experience, damon2!
If you (or future readers of this thread) have a chance to refer someone else, note that you do not need to have online account access to make reservations under the newly created account. The MR account number is in the (immediately generated) "Welcome" Email and you can enter it into a reservation without logging in. We did that with my wife's new account, and even reserved an M11 rate with the new number, all online, without logging in. Checking my records I see the reservation confirmation Email is time-stamped less than 1 hour after the MR Welcome Email, whereas the "Online Access Created" Email is about 50 hours after the MR "Welcome" Email.
