free upgrade to marriott silver level

i just received an email from cathay pacific asia miles which is offering free marriott silver level if you sign up (if you don't already belong to marriott rewards membership) or register (if you're already a member) on the following url.

http://www.joinmarriottrewards.com/cathay/cpm1/en/

although it appears to be targeted to cathay pacific asia miles members i believe that anyone can sign up for it.

regards,
alem

"Newly enrolled members will receive Marriott Rewards Silver membership.
Existing Marriott Rewards members below Silver status will receive Silver membership upon promotion registration."

So even existing members can receive Silver status without any stays.

T&C says earning preference should be miles to qualify for this offer and the offer is not transferable.

So can we change an account to miles until the end of this promo and flip back to points after we get the goodies?

It looks like Silver status is good for one year.

They have these promos all around the year with various airlines. Could be worthwhile open another account if you are on a really cheap stay.

I tried this when it was first posted on the 11th and didn't see an update to my status during the next few days. Just checked and I am now listed as Silver. Only five nights on my account (should be two, got credit for three comp nights).

Yes, not much to being Silver, but it is nice especially in my case where a lot of hotel nights don't qualify for points.

Do you also have to sign up for Asia Miles or can you get to Silver from the link alone?

I signed up for this, made sure I had the CP miles set for earnings, and I also haven't seen a status change. Perhaps a stay is needed before it kicks in. Does anyone know, Marriott Concierge? The site and terms are vague, but it does say that "Existing Marriott Rewards members below Silver status will receive Silver membership upon promotion registration."

Its been nearly a month for me and no change in status.
