No upgrade of any sort at Marriott San Diego DelMar

[QUOTE]

At the DelMar Marriott tonight. No upgrade ... well they tried to sell me an upgrade to the Concierge Floor for $40 when the Online Res would have sold it to me for $20 more ($269 vs $249), then offered to upgrade me to CL access for $25. I pointed out that I was a Platinum member and CL access is a benefit, then they coded my card for the CL. No Platinum arrival gift at check in either, so the room actually came to $149 (++++).

My best upgrades have come from:

Rome Marriott Flora - Full 1 bdrm Suite (1 Stay)
Marriott Waterside - Tampa - Exec Suite, Corner Suite, Luxury Suite (Dozens of Stays)
Ren Dallas (the old Wyndham) - Exec Suite (2 Stays)
Baltimore Waterfront - Exec Suite (1 Stay)
Coronado Island Resort - Full 1 bdrm Villa (2 Stays)
Marriott Hotel and Marina San Diego Full 1 bdrm Suite (8 Stays)
JW Marriott Resort Las Vegas = Full 1 bdrm Suite (2 Stays)
JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue - DC Full 1 bdrm Suite (1 Stay)
Charlotte Marriott SouthPark Full 1 Bedroom Suite (2 Stays)
Marriott Rivercenter San Antonio - Full 1 bdrm Suite (4 Stays)
Marriott Riverwalk San Antonio - Jr Suite (1 Stay)
Hollywood Beach Marriott - Jr Suite (1 Stay)
Marriott Greenville SC - Presidential Suite (2 Stays)
JW Marriott Camelback - Phoenix - Full 1 bdrm Casita (3 STays)
Marriott Buttes - Phoenix - Presidential Suite (1 Stay)
Marriott Lake Mary - Full 1 bdrm Suite (1 Stay)
Las Vegas Ren - Full 1 bdrm Suite (2 stays)
Ontario Airport Marriott - Exec Suite, Presidential Suite (3 Stays)
Rennaisance Vinoy - Full 1 bedrm Suite, w/whirlpool (1 Stay)
Marriott Madison West - Full 1 bdrm Corner Suite (1 Stay)

Only FS Properties listed. I have had dozens of Suite UGs in various RI, and TPI

Did you get a suite room or an upgrade to a balcony Oceanfront view room? My wife and I stayed here a few years ago, just after they opened and that is what they upgraded us to. I wondered if they had suite rooms. Since we didn't have the kids with us, a suite room wasn't a priority.

I am scheduled for two nights here next week so I will get back with any differences though I doubt it.

What a great idea this thread is - have upcoming stays in some of these cities where I am in a different hotel.....based on this, will change and see what happens!

I have been going to Minneapolis for 20 years, and have always stayed at the Bloomington Marriott - obviously a mistake based on these comments! (and I am losing the area next month....sigh)

Marriott Waterfront Seattle

5 stays there since making Plat, 3 true one-bedroom suites.

As a Gold, I never received the suites in about 15 stays - it's pretty clear that it's a Plat thing. (As a Gold, I usually got a high floor balcony room - which is pretty nice to have when the weather is nice.) Also, this hotel sells out often in the summer, so I imagine if I'm still traveling to Seattle this often in June, the upgrade mix will change.

Side perk: I've occasionally gotten a full bottle of a good local Merlot here, not the typical 1/2 bottle of Meridien.

Of the ones I can recall.
Minneapolis City Center - upgrd to bi-level suites (about 50:50 on availability)
Minneapolis Airport - routinely upgrd to suite or exec suite
Downtown Chicago - Mich Ave (before moving to Chi), upgrd Pres. Suite once
JW Cancun and Casa Magna - upgrd to suite a couple times each
Ren. Amsterdam - upgrd to suite and welcome gift (ceramic candy jar)

I am back at the Del Mar Marriott, though the stay has grown from 2 nights to three and I am pleased that there are some improvements so forgive my quick to judge negativism.

I was placed on the Concierge Level (or so I was told) and the Plat arrival gift was not overlooked. I was also pleasantly surprised that the Hotel is hosting an "Elite Reception" while I am here at the new outdoor lounge with "Complimentary Drinks and Small Bites", hosted by the "Management Team". I have not seen this before. Of course, after being told I was accomodated on the Concierge Level (11th Floor) I looked at the website ("About This Hotel") and learned that the hotel only has one Concierge Level and that is the 11th floor. Go figure.

I can confirm two, although i've had different experences at one..

Love that you're Platinum:
#1 Marriott Buenos Aires (but only one room - we had 3 rooms, they'd only upgrade one - but what an upgrade)
#2 Marriott Marquis New York

Don't care you're Platinum:
* Marriott Toronto Eaton Centre
* Marriott Inner Harbor (Baltimore)
