Platinum by earning Silver?
I just received my new Rewards card. NOT complaining. I have been platinum for several years. Last year I only stayed in Marriott chain just over 25. Should have earned silver and I expected to be down graded. I received Platinum until 2/2007!
I do not believe that I earned lifetime Platinum.
I was challenged late last year to earn Platinum for a reduced number of times, but I did not meet the number.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Just curious.

Same here - I've been PLT since 2001, but only had 50 nights last year and was expected a Gold card. I'm not complaining....

Had you, your new card would have carried a "Good Thru" date of "LIFET"

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. They finally dropped me down to Gold after two years of not making status, but then bumped me right back up to Platinum again after staying something like 20 nights in 2005.
Enjoy the extended status.

I have to believe that its a calculated decision on Marriotts part. If your nights all of the sudden drop off, it's one of two things. Either you changed Jobs and for what little it's worth they want to get keep what litte business you still will give them OR you've switched to HHonors in which case the prudent thing to do is not to lower your level of hospitality when you do stay. After a couple years, they'll give up and put you where you belong. My 2c
I think I've been a platinum for 5 years, maybe 6 and didnt make it to 75 once but they sent me a letter in like august, telling me that if I get 20 more nights, they'll renew and they did. The problem I see with it is it dilutes the platinum pool a little. I guess that's why they have platinum premier.

Same thing, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my mail and saw my Platinum card...I should have been downgraded to a silver. Oh well, not complaining!
