IMHO, it depends vey much on the age and the location, so it's kinda' tough to say accurately in general!

While they by no means go the same extreme, Renaissance Hotels can be thought of as heading into the W genre--a little hipper, glossy, etc.

Obviously not all properties, but that's my bet on where the brand is going to be heading and already is.

Yeah...I've noticed that - a lot of Renaissances are "W lite", which is perfectly cool with me. I met a buddy for coffee at W Seattle at 8AM one morning and I felt like I was walking into a nightclub. It was a bit over the top... Renaissances are sorta hip, but they don't try to overdo it.

There is also a subset of the Renaissance brand that kinda goes old-world boutique-y. Des Moines, etc. Again, I think most of them are pretty nice. I greatly enjoy Renaissance Seattle, and that's not even among the finest examples (it sort of needs a decor refresher).

Yes indeed.

Stay at the REN in Columbus OH and you will see where the brand is headed.

As is reported, Rens come in different "flavors" and ambiences and leave different impressions.

Ren Westchester seemed, at least to me, very Marriott-like.

Ren Mayflower a dowager heavy on old-world atomosphere and tradition

Ren Del Monte Lodge came across as a combination of boutique and B & B

Hollywood epitomizes the "W-Lite" look.

"Ghosts of Stouffer's" still seen to inhabit Ren Chicago and Waverly in Atlanta (and that's not bad at all).

I have stayed at the Parc 55, SF Mar and SF CY. All are nice. The Mar has a bar up top with a great view of the city, the CY is within walking distance of the ball park, and the Parc, as well as the Mar, are right on Market St, which makes getting around easy.
