Yeah...I've noticed that - a lot of Renaissances are "W lite", which is perfectly cool with me. I met a buddy for coffee at W Seattle at 8AM one morning and I felt like I was walking into a nightclub. It was a bit over the top... Renaissances are sorta hip, but they don't try to overdo it.

There is also a subset of the Renaissance brand that kinda goes old-world boutique-y. Des Moines, etc. Again, I think most of them are pretty nice. I greatly enjoy Renaissance Seattle, and that's not even among the finest examples (it sort of needs a decor refresher).
