My colleague had the same thing happen to her at the Marriott Bay Point Resort in Panama City Beach, FL. She said she got to her room and opened the door... to an empty room. She was a little surprised, needless to say. She called the front desk (there was a desk and phone in the room) who promptly moved her to another room. She never did find out why the room was devoid of beds yet had been assigned to her. And she stays there just about every other week for a week at a time...

I know mine pales in comparison, but, I was in a non-Marriott a couple of nights ago and while trying vainly to find an electrical outlet for my laptop, I pulled the nightstand out and found 3 pillowcases crammed behind it. I can't even figure that out. Oh, finally found an outlet across the room, where I had to crawl under the desk to get to it. So, why do they have those cute little bed-desks or lap-desks or whatever you call them if you can't plug in and prop up in bed and use the thing?

A napping housekeeper. A suit laid out on the bed and open luggage. Airline tickets for the family that had to check out early because of an emergency -closest airport 90 minutes away, back in the days where all you had were paper tickets, ouch!

All in non Marriott properties: handcuffs (the bed and breakfast with everything!), blood splatter on the bathroom light fixture (in a room reeking of fresh paint ... makes you wonder), a chair with no legs in a room that had a bunch of wadded tissues under the bed, and the latest (and most infuriating), a room without a scrap of toilet paper. I was not a happy camper in the morning!

When i walked into my room at the Marriott in Livonia,MI (just outside Detriot) There was a hand towel on the rack in the bathroom that had clearish bodily fluid and short dark curly hairs. I couldnt believe it.

The front desk didnt seem too impressed by my find. I think i got a few bonus points, thats it

at buffalo bill's hotel in primm, nv we were given a room and walked in to find a foreign couple.... I went to the front desk with the most mortified looking face and said this is the most embarassing day of my life. I was given a free suite, another free stay, and $100 infood vouchers

I found a cleaning maid dancing to spanish music playing from the TV. She had the sound up and didn't hear me coming. She was quite embarrased.

Already occupied

Over the years, I've opened the door to find someone already in "my" room probably a dozen times (but not in any Marriotts that I can remember, specifically). About half the time, I've just seen luggage. The other half of the time, I've walked in on an older guy, generally half undressed, either sitting on the edge of the bed, or asleep. (Somehow I've never walked in on a woman or a fully-clothed guy.) I've always backed out very quickly and returned to the front desk... but I've never asked for anything aside from an *unoccupied* room. Occasionally I've been upgraded when I've received my new room assignment, but not usually. Thanks to FT, I'll make sure to request miles or other compensation the next time this happens!

One time I was given 2 occupied rooms before the front desk finally assigned me an unoccupied room. And then there was something wrong with that third room (something essential was broken -- can't remember what now) so I had to make a 3rd trip back to the desk. I was pretty aggravated at that point, but it was also pretty comical. I just wondered how long the charade would continue!

Luckily recent trips have been less eventful, aside from persistent plumbing problems -- how is it that I always check into the room with the toilet that won't stop running, even before I've used it? I really should just ask Maintenance to meet me at the room when I first check in because I need their assistance so often.

I always, always, have I mentioned always engage the dead bolt. Too many maids have tried to walk in on me!

Most unpleasant discovery was an un-emptied trash bin (which seems mild after reading this thread from start to finish!).

Lately I've had a rash of maids leaving their grubby grey-ish cleaning rag in the bathroom, either on the floor or next to the sink. Once in a Marriott, once in a Hilton. In the Hilton, it was accompanied by a printed list of guests names and room numbers, which was stuck between two hand towels and fell onto the floor when I reached for one of the towels.
