Strange things found when checking in to room
I checked into a Fairfield Inn on Saturday night with my family. Imagine my surprise when I found a full set of dentures soaking in a cup next to the ice bucket. Some how the maid had cleaned the room, and missed them. I am just curios how the guy before me managed to forget them. That was quite a change from the normal Platinum check in gift that I get.
I was wondering what strange things others have found in there room. |
I would think it's hard to forget your teeth! :D
At the NYC Marriott Marquis we found a bag of pot! My husband flushed it. Found some used underwear somewhere else in a drawer.

I found a freshly cleaned suit hanging in the closet once. It didn't take too long to discover that the previous guest had checked out before his dry cleaning was delivered. They delivered it, anyway, not knowing he was gone. I checked the size before calling the front desk. (Just kidding!)

Lots of crazy little "stuff" over the years, but mostly clothes.
Once, in Boston, the drawers will literally filled with womens items - some of which were quite interesting. Never found any money! :D Mark |
I have checked into three rooms in 20 years that had luggage in the room. Each time, they had to give me a new room and were apologetic. I was just happy the person was not in the room when I entered.

Does a guest already in the room qualify as strange? If so, that's happened to me in the past.
If it's personal items only, nothing more unusual than a Readers Digest, which came in handy for pool-side reading. |

Does Finding 2 guests in a room count?
Marriott property in NYC, computer problems at the front desk. Given room key and off I went opened door, walked past bathroom and saw two people enjoying each other quite a bit, took a second look and left. Back in lobby waited for the same person, she was surprised to see me back. I thanked her for providing the entertainment and told her I thought I had to go to times square for a live sex show. She then checked me into a new room with no one in it (this was a promise) and it was the best hotel room I ever stayed in J W Marriott Suite. :D ^ :-:  :D

I stayed at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront about 4 years ago. They have the rooms with a snack and drink bar built into the drawers. You have to request a key or combination to open the snack bar. The prices were ridiculous. However, one day, I came back after my room was cleaned and found a bag of cookies on the drawer (the same type found in the snack bar). I called management and told them about it just to make sure I wouldn't be charged for anything.
In June 2005, I went to Miami, FL and stayed at the Courtyard Miami Downtown. I came back to the room one Sunday and found that the sliding door to the balcony was open and the desk chair was moved all the way to the sliding door. Someone (apparently the maid is my guess) left a glass with a cigarette in it on the desk. I reported this to management and they were apologetic, and that was about it. Nothing was taken, but it seems someone was taking a break. |

Thats why I always use the dead bolt when I'm in my room. I wouldn't want to be the cause of anyone's nightmares. |
Gee....where do I begin.
The most recent was last week and the "used" Q-tip sitting on the sink in the bathroom of the Chicago Downtown Marriott Magnificent Mile! Second most recent was at the Newark, CA Courtyard this past fall where the last guest in the room I was given had left a grossly "over-ripe" cheap shirt hanging in the closet. The whole room smelled rank because of it, and I was moved. Then there was the half cup of coffee and a half-consumed bagel in a (non-Marriott) hotel just outside of Toronto a couple of years back...which made for a rather startling welcome! As did the unemptied trash can! Several other incidents too gross/mundane/somehwere-in-between to mention. And yes, I've found money....if you count change in the upholstery of sofas and chairs. But my favorite was what found ME one time. Holiday Inn Airport in New Orleans, in the mid-80s. Checked in on a hot Saturday afternoon after a long drive, and decided I could use a cool, refreshing shower. Ten minutes later, as I stepped out of my shower....I heard the door open and here came a guy carrying his bride across the threshold! Fortunately, I had a towel around my waist! I don't know who was more stunned....them or me...but to this day I've often wondered about how that marriage came out! Turned out to be a couple from Oklahoma. Seems the front desk had mistakenly put me in what was supposed to have been their room. |
I almost got walked in once (deadbolt stopped it) when I was in the room enjoying someone.
The were trying to deliver my laundry and ignored the DND sign on the door after knocking and receiving no answer. So, they figured they could just come in. Since it would be uncomfortable for everyone involved, I did not complain :) I have also checked into a room (not Marriott) that had a toy water gun and used bath robe. Moved to another room, dropped off my camera equipment, came back could not open the door and all my stuff disappeared (ended up at the front desk) after security opened the door. The hotel (Tropicana in LAS) must have had room allocation problems that day. Ended up in a suite. |
