Experience using BB's with Summer Sleepover
Well I thought I would report on my experience this last weekend using a(previously acquired of course) BB certificate with the Summer Sleepover rate. I called Marriot twice before the stay to ask, and received one confident 'yes' and one 'I don't see why not."
But when I checked out the guy, when I asked for my certificates, said 'oh, no. that is only when you pay in full with a visa, not when you use a certificate.' I asked him where it said 'in full' and he said it was just assumed. Then I called Marriott, because he was unyielding, and got a customer service person. She said the I don't see why not line. But then when I asked her to tell this to the front desk guy, she said, hold on, let me check with my supervisor. The woman she transferred me to tried to tell me that I couldn't do it, but ended up asking me dumb things, like 'are you trying to use the one that you just got on the rate?" and "Is it expired?"
I got annoyed and said, look, is there an actual policy on this or isn't there? Then when I finally gave the phone to him, he didn't talk to her in my presence, but had called her back while I waited for about 45 minutes.
Then he came out and said well she confirmed that I was right and you can't do this but I am letting you anyway so here you go. Needless to say I wasn't that grateful, seeing as though I couldn't get any straight answer and all of my time was waisted by people who seemed to be trying anything not to let me get this deal.
My questions are, is there an actual policy on this or is it deliberately vague so that individual properties can make their own decisions with individual guests? My natural problem is that how is this deal any different from any other goodies that you get with a rate? For instance, no one argues with my using Bonus Bucks as partial payment if the rate includes free dinner or tickets to a zoo or something else that has a similar monetary value, but it seems to have considerably more trouble attached when the rate includes getting another Bonus Buck. Also, I paid more for this rate that if I had just checked in at their cheapest rate, so essentially I PAID for these certificates, and they tried to yank them from me just because of the form of payment that I had used for part of it.
It seems that the only actual restrictions I can actually get from them are that it is a two night deal where you must use the visa. Other than that they have not been able to nail anything down, though this guy sure tried. I really hate this, because if they are going to have deals like this, they shouldn't try to fight with you over something that is not clear, becuase being made to feel like you are trying to get away with something is not really a fun feeling to have when you are trying to have a relaxing weekend. Also they sure have plenty of customer service people who seem to be giving the green light on this, so that puts us doubly in an awkward position.
Anyone else have any more luck getting more specific answers?

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! ^
The response is crap and I expect Chris to give us an immediate clarification.
Moreover, like you, I already have booked a number of rates that are considerably higher using the OTP rate code and if this is not allowed with a bonus buck, then I expect similar treatment that you received as I have detrimentally relied on the earlier OK from MArriott.
Moreover, there is no qualifier, as you have noted, but even if there was, it certainly can be interpreted to mean that you must pay the "Final Amount Due" on your Visa.
As the Certs themselve state that they are treated like cash or a credit, your final amount due is paid with a Visa.
Entirely different thing if you try to split your payments among credit cards --but that is not what you -- or anyone on this board, had any intention to do, as far as I can recall.
Kindly advise of the name of this hotel and this thread should serve as a clearinghouse of any other hotels that place this sort of B.S interpretation on these rates!!

I just printed out the T & C -- just in case -- I will need them in the future, or if they attempt to change the rules in mid-stream.
However, unlike many on this board, I also call the number that one is supposed to, when intending to use bonus bucks on the stay -- again, just in case. Did you do this, and if so, why did you not say that they were well aware of your using bonus bucks on that rate -- as it was indicated by the reservations agent -- and that they had no problem with your doing so, so the hotel cannot complain now!

It was the SeaTac Airport Marriott near Seattle. The rate was 110, which I would never pay here except for this promotion.

I used a bonus buck on a $104 OTP code this past weekend at the Ypsi Marriott in Michigan. The front desk clerk not only gave me no trouble, he complimented me on being smart enough to get a buck while using a buck.
The beginning of two days of outstanding service, I might add.

And the nice thing is, you only have to stay 1 night to get the $100 BB. To use the BB you have to stay at least 2 nights. This is especially nice since I am 1 night short for my mega bonus offer which expires at the end of the month.

This is obviously a promotion geared to earn Visa money as well as Marriott. Visa is only paid when charges are processed.
I know from past experience that hotels have allowed you to use BB's on promotions that earn BB's and pay the difference with the Promo card. However, that does not mean that they were right and the clerk in the OP was wrong. They are mearly two different interpretation of the same rules.
Most people do not use the BB's according to their T&C's, so we expect that the T&C's of other promos will be loosely interpreted in the favor of the customer also.

If anyone have the clear answer, but let us know. I would also like to use a BB (from the Buick promotion) for a Summer Sleepover stay.

That is why if you were to actually follow the T & C of the Bonus Bucks and book the reservation thru the number they say you should call re the Bonus Bucks, and it is booked, they cannot say that they were unaware that you were going to use the bucks with that rate.
Moreover, their booking such a rate with the bonus bucks is ipso facto proof that Marriott permitted use of a bonus bucks with the OTP Visa promotion.
Moreover, the bonus bucks can be used towards items not initally covered by the OTP rate and therefore, Wrldtravlers argument is flawed.
Finally, as Morgan pointed out above, the T & C of the OTP promotion do NOT say that you cannot use other items to decrease your bill; heck it does not even state that you must bay the final amount due with a Visa card, only that a Visa card is to be used in settling your bill. Therefore, the interpretation given by the Sea-Tac desk jockey is fatally flawed.

The problem with using it on my next stay is that promotions like this generate business that wouldn't have existed without it. Thus I stayed at the hotel only because of this deal. It says pay with Visa but it does not say how much. Pay with Visa I did. This devil has many advocates for some reason.
