A similar recent promotion may shed some light on the proper interpretation of the rules for this one. Remember a year or two ago, Marriott offered bonus points for stays paid with AMEX? I got quite a few points under that promotion. But in many cases, I paid for part of the stay using Bonus Bucks (or the equivalent Marriott Cheques). Nevertheless, I got the full bonus on my entire bill, not just the part charged to AMEX. Marriott's systems recorded the stay as AMEX-paid, even though it was not 100% AMEX-paid. The analogy to this latest promotion is pretty obvious.

Not to stray too far OT, but if someone later searches on "Ypsilanti" I hope they find all these comments. We did a very nice 2-nighter there last month. Used an EEO with a golf package. We received excellent treatment at the hotel all weekend long. Quiet place, very nice. ^

The golf course management itself left a bit to be desired, but this is not handled by Marriott staff, so I can't really hold it against them too much. Their core operation - running the hotel - is very good.

OK...I'm going to bump this thread...

Chris - can you let us know if we can use a (previously acquired) BB on a OTP rate? I assume this is a public rate since it is advertised all over the website AND I will be paying for the reminder of my stay w/ my Marriott Visa.

I am ready to book my stay and the best available rate is the same as the OTP (summer sleepover) rate, so I rather book the OTP rate if possible. BUT, I don't want to be hassled at check-in that I can't use a BB.

Thoughts?

Have you tried calling Marriott to get them to add the notation to your reservation? That would have been the way to go for me, one of the reservation agents who told me no problem could have indicated that on my acct... let us know if you try this.

OK...I did it by the book

I called the 1-800 # on the back of the BB. The res agent quoted me the same rate I saw online, but when I asked about the Summer Sleepover promotion (same as the best available rate), she said I couldn't use the BB with that rate

So...I decided to just book the BA rate to make sure I can use the BB. Oh well... It would have been nice to get another BB, UA cert, and breakfast for the same rate! UGH...

Thumbs down

I think that you got bad information. I would call back and try another agent or ask for a supervisor. I see no reason at all why you can't use a Bonus Bucks on an OTP rate.

Sorry to resurect this old thread... Has anyone booked the Summer Sleepover, paid with BB and Visa and got their BB and UA discount coupon?

I did a stay at the local Ren, paid with 1/2 Visa and 1/2 BB without a single question from the front desk on checkout. No, I did not make my reservation using the number on the BB. That was memorial day weekend and haven't received my BB or UA coupon yet.

I just stayed 3 nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) at a Marriott Suites in Chicago, using OTP rate. USED 100 BB for 2 paid nights, used EEO 2nd night free for 1 free night, used VISA for balance. GOT 100 BB and UA discount. At 104 bucks/night that came to about 44 bucks/night net including tax for a nice suite with separate bedroom.

All booked on line, I always put "will use Bonus Bucks and EEO cert" in the comments section. OTP rate showed up in the general list without any special codes checked. I had printed that page out in case somebody would question the "publicly listed" condition. It was very obviously publicly listed. But nobody questioned this.

You should have received your Bonus Bucks and UA discount at checkout (They're both part of a "Congratulations" or whatever the caption was sheet), tear off UA, and tear off BB. To get them after the fact may not be possible, but I'd try if I were you.

Just realized I blew it by not getting my coupons at checkout. I had a bit of an issue with the stay (room functionality related) and have been in contact with the GM. I will see if the GM will provide me the coupons after the fact. If not, live and learn.

I had a stay with the OTP rate in early May and didn't get the BB or the UA coupon. I just called Marriott customer service ( 800-535-4028 ) and said I'd never asked for the certificates when I checked out (true). They called the hotel, verified that I'd stayed on the OTP rate, then told me the hotel would be mailing me my certificates. We'll see if they arrive, but so far: a positive outcome.

Past weekend I happened to stay in Toronto while on a business trip. I came to know that there is a SSOver promo recently. immediately I booked on OTP rate at 2 hotels next door to each other for 2days stay at each hotel. At both the places I was able to use BB and get my BB and united coupons at checkout with no problems. As one other FT reported one of the CR even appreciated me for my smartness. FT Forums, I'm loving them ^

I just booked a two night stay in Amsterdam using a Premium Pound, in conjunction with the "Stay for breakfast with Visa" promotion, which includes a 100 Euro coupon. The rep read me all the details and didn't say anything about not being able to use my premium pounds. We'll see how it goes.

I just used premium pounds/bonus bucks for the following:

12 night stay bangkok on 3 x 4 day "packages" of $440 each. No problems

2 night stay in JW phuket - one night "visa summer sleepover" @ $156 and second night prepaid at $95. They took a premium pound cert and gave me a new BB.

Two rooms for 2 nights each using summer sleepover rate of $169 at the Ren in Las Vegas. Used EEO cert for one night free for one room AND they took both coupons AND gave me two new ones.

Overall, I love BBs.
