A tale of two Concierge floors
Just got back from a long weekend at the Marriott Chateau Champlain in Montreal.
Was Placed,as requested,in a D/D smoking on the concierge level(33rd floor)Room was ok-but in need of a sprucing up.
Happned to get off on the non-smoking concierge level(34)by mistake, decided to look around and peeked in a vacant room-newly refurbished, much nicer soft and case goods, and a newly refinished bathroom.
I do not smoke but the friend I was travelling with does, thus the booking of a smoking room. But it kinda bugs me that the furnishings on the NS floor were soooooo much nicer and newer.
The Lounge on the 35th floor was great-three servings a day(breakfast, late afternoon snacks, and after dinner desserts)even on weekends!
Staff at the hotel was lovely-and it is a very good location.

A few years ago my wife and I stayed there (this was before I achieved any MR status) in a concierge level room (believe it was on the 34th floor).
We noted that they were doing some refurbishing somewhere near us (perhaps a floor or two below) because of the presence of an odor (could have been paint or some kind of adhesive. It didn't seem all that bad so we didn't say anything.
Anyway, at about 3 AM we both woke up coughing - that odor was now overpowering.
Called down and they sent someone from engineering up to unlock the bottom portion of one of those half-moon windows. But, since there was no cross ventilation, it didn't help.
So, we called down again and they sent a manager (the night manager, I guess) up to take a sniff. The result was that they moved us (temporarily, they said) to a corner, 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite on 35. (If you make a left out of the elevator, it's the one in the corner.
The next morning we went to the desk to find out what our new room would be - the manager in charge tickled her terminal's keys and told us to stay put for the duration of our stay (4 nights) and apologized to us for all the inconvenience.
Incidentally, back then (1997) we too found the concierge lounge and hotel staff to be outstanding.
Out of curiosity, did you book the concierge floor or was it a complimentary upgrade?

I have stayed here on numerous occasions.
The concierge floor staff are some of the best in the industry.Their suggestions for restaurant were always bang on. ^
The view in early October is outstanding. The changing colors and elevation of the room, make for a very nice picture. ^

Smoking should be banned on all floors at all hotels! If you have to smoke, go outside. Don't kill others in your quest of an early demise!

I was at this hotel two weeks ago and the room I got was a concierge level room. The ventilation was very poor. I also had to call to have small window at floor level opened... The lounge is very nice and staff are very good. The fitness centre is also very good and the pool was small but better than none.
I would suggest anyone booking at this hotel to check www.hotels.ca for lower rates and then proceed to file a Marriott rate claim... has worked for me everytime...
