cowtowner did this in post #12 and in just less than 6 days. I know that there are times when I might be off the computer (internet) for a week or so, rarely over this. Therefore, I would not take offense until a couple of weeks pass. Then if no thankful response is given, I might be slightly offended and not be so quick to offer advise in the future.
Maybe this was a timing issue and now water under the bridge.

I would suggest you turn off your computer. There is a real world out there.

I have personally been top tier in both programs...currently Silver in Marriott and about to go from Diamond down to either Gold or Silver with Hilton.
It has been my observation that both properties lower end formats are fairly equal and offer some nice amenities for the everyday business traveler. As for award use and higher end properties, Hilton has certainly devalued their program and awards over the past several years...so has Marriott, just not to the same degree.
I have had little trouble using up my Hilton points over the past few years, it has just taken me more points than yin years before that, and at times it has been difficult to get Hilton HHonors to work with me.
On the other hand, I've used a few Marriott awards in the past year and have nothing but good things to say about the Rewards program and the SC reps I dealt with. In one instance I was trying to secure a room down near Augusta for last year's Master's tournament (due to a srew-up on Hilton's part in trying to secure a similar room). Not only were the MR folks able to get us a room (that would have cost us $250 a night otherwise!!!), but allowed my friend and I to combine points out of each of our accounts to have enough total points to secure the room!!! Save us over $700 on short notice with very little hassle.
The last time I used an award certificate, the CS rep took excellent care of us, securing a room in Chicago for the dates and property we wanted, combined it with a paid stay and everything worked out smooth as silk, even making sure the free night certificate was used for the more expensive of the two nights.
I just feel like Marriott is really trying to take care of ALL of its customers (as someone above pointed out)...not just the top-tier elites.
