Hawaii Help

Hi - my wife and I are going to Hawaii for the first time in August, 2005. We'll be spending 5 days at the Princeville on my Starwood points. I'm looking for one more hotel stay and we have narrowed it down to the JW Marriott Ihilani or the Ritz Carlton. Have enough points to do either one.

I know they are on different islands. I've heard that Kauai (Princeville) is very laid back. What recommendations do you have for the second island or the second hotel? Any "must does?" Many thanks.

stevens: you might benefit from going over to the Hawai`i board and looking through some threads there that are loaded with the information you're looking for. That board can be found: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forum...ysprune=&f=435

Again, islands will have differing experiences. Kaua`i is far more laid back than the city life of O`ahu (although the Ihilani is quite isolated near Kapolei and so is the RC on Maui) and the semi-touristy/plantation life of Maui.

I can only suggest that you provide more information on what exactly you're looking for, then we can move on to the "must dos"

Best of luck!

aloha

p.s. Welcome to Flyertalk!

Been to the JW twice and really love it. They are bulding up the resort area but it's still a great place. I wouldn't go to Oahu for the hotel but it's where we will always stay when on that island. On Kauai we've been to the Marriott twice also where we will most likely return next time.

Why Fly for Two Nights?

There is a Sheraton 3* and a Hyatt Resort on the south side of Kauai that is in a different ecosystem and might as well be a different island--and is on a good beach. North and south Kauai are hardly the same island. North is rain forest and mountains. South is dry. Different things to see.

There are also two Marriott properties...the Marriott in Lihue is one of my favorites anywhere, and they also have a property on Poipu (I don't recall the name, sorry) which is new.

slippahs makes a good point. It would be useful to know the ultimate goal of your Hawaiian vacation ( except for the obvious ) so that some of us could point you in the proper direction. The Hawaiian Islands have such a wide variety of entertainment/dining/sightseeing/tourism options that there is literally something for everyone. Different islands offer a different mix of options. Depending on if you just want to relax and are looking for a great beach or if you are into nightlife, fine dining, history, watersports, etc., you have a great variety of choices. And slippahs is correct as well that you may want to check out the Hawaii Travel Forum here on FT for up to date suggestions.

I may be in the minority but I love the Waikiki Beach Marriott. There's a full service spa and food galore just down the block.

I would also recommend considering Maui. The Renaissance there is marvelous.
