Bait & Switch?
I'm searching for stay this fall, and the rate search comes up $159. So I select the rate, and the next screen quotes $234. I try the search again, the $159 comes up, but whenever I select it, I get a "this rate does not exist" message. How are we supposed to get the rates marriott.com actually quotes?

The system seems to routinely post the lowest price that is possible if certain conditions are met.
For example, that price may only be available for pre-paid stays or for one day of a multi-day stay.
The latter happens when I do a quick check and just put in the check in date and accept the default next day check out. When the stay is expanded, it may include higher priced days.

Just go to the setting and change it and look for the best rate. The property is known for things like that.

I wish there was a way to get the system to show either average daily price, and/or to eliminate the advance purchase rates (that I have no desire to reserve for)...
