2 noob questions

I'm new to the Marriott world so forgive these questions. I searched but couldn't find the quality FT answer I wanted.

1. I have a Ritz Carlton rewards account. Can this be used 100% interchangeably with Marriott? I just applied for the Marriott Chase card and I put in my RC #. Can I earn Marriott status with a RC account?

2. I've read mixed things about status matching. I've hear they denied everything for a while and now Marriott is opening to challenges. Any experience on this?

1. Yes. I'm RC and I participate in MAR MegaBonus and RC bonus, as little as the latter shows up. I also have both the Marriott Chase card and the Ritz Card, because I'm stupid (and Ritz doesn't get multipliers on hotels below FS)
2. No clue if they're open to status matching. I'm Plat for Life, so I could care less. Never hurts to ask.

Marriott hasn't done status matches for a while, but they do have "challenges" to get Gold or Plat. Usually it's 6 (Gold) or 9 (Plat) stays/nights (can't remember which) in 90 days. It helps if you've got some stays booked when you request the challenge so they can see you're actually going to stay at Marriotts/be more inclined to say yes. It also doesn't hurt to mention that you're Platinum w/ SPG & that you're willing to provide documentation (they won't ask for it, but it shows you're not just a general member of a dif program asking for a challenge). Other than free i-net, you won't get the Gold/Plat bennies until you meet the requirements of the challenge.
