Phony call from Marriott?
This was odd - I got a call on my cell phone today that appeared to be from another cell in town. (Same area code and the prefix was the same as my number.)
I answered it and got an automated system offering me some sort of "deal" at Marriott.
Has anyone else gotten something similar? I assume it's a scam, but maybe I'm wrong.

Total scam. I say this with some certainty because many of the calls in the (206) area code appeared to be originating from my personal cell phone, which has not been much fun for me. [If you press #1, you are taken to a system that asks you for your credit card info, according to one of the rather irate individuals who decided to call me and complain about being scammed.]

Thanks for the response.
That makes sense - I figured it was a spoofed number. This is likely a legitimate number in my area code (208) and I'm sure the real owner is none too happy about it.

I got another one - this time from "TripAdvisor" offering me a free vacation.
While I doubt that many folks on this board would fall for this sort of thing, it's probably something watch out for with family members and so forth.
