Thirty years of 25 nights per year, including credit card nights credits, doesn't seem so unreasonable for a leisure traveler who always stays with Marriott and who signed up with MR at the beginning.

Alternatively, if someone stays for a while in a RI or similar as part of a move, the rollover nights could help a lot.

How do you give Lifetime Status temporarily?
You win post of the day today. OP should have used his head. Not like he was a SLV.

750 lifetime nights is only for Lifetime Platinum. There's not a lot of difference between Platinum and Gold, and Lifetime Gold is only 500 lifetime nights (though also 1.6 million lifetime points).

I think for lifetime status you also have to have hit the corresponding status at least one time... so you can't stay 25nts/yr for 30yrs and get lifetime plat since you would've never had plat status (or even gold).

I believe Starwood has that requirement for their SPG LT statuses, but I don't think that Marriott has that same requirement any longer.

So it would indeed be possible (though I suspect unlikely in most cases) to get Marriott LT status without previously hitting that elite level.

I think (wait to be proved wrong!) that I am in a small minority. I am Lifetime Platinum and have NEVER stayed on business. I joined Marriott Rewards in 2003.I was Gold for 2006 and 2007 and I have made Platinum in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 without the rollover nights to assist (I did get some, but got 75 actual nights anyway). I made Lifetime by the beginning of 2014 and in 2014 still had 70 nights. Although I would only be Lifetime Gold under the old qualification, I still have the pre-requisites of the old system: over 2m points, 12 years membership and at least one year at Platinum. Will probably make 1000 nights by 2017.

I do like to emphasise that I have made this not on business, I think it does deliver me a few extras, though some hotels (Maidstone, are you listening) couldn't give two hoots!

Maybe that's why after 7-yrs as a P and making LTG under the new rules I just stay at the property that's most convenient regardless of its brand.
