how to dispose? new card too tough to cut
Because the annual fee came due, I cancelled my Marriott Rewards Visa. I don't now know how to dispose of the card - it has a chip, is too thick for me to cut, I went after it with a hammer, used frig magnet to maybe demagnetize ...
Suggestions?

LOL...I have noticed that my MR Visa is by far the most indestructible thing in my wallet. I have a power saw in the garage that would probably do the trick, but it's definitely tougher than any scissors I own. Going after it with a kitchen knife would probably lop off a finger before killing the card.
If you've actually canceled the card, would a crook have any use for it even if he found it in a landfill? Could the now-dead CC number be used as a backdoor into any Chase system?

Heh, heh. Those metal wafer cards are pretty tough! I tried ordinary scissors on mine and barely made a nick. I didn't try to force it because I didn't want to break my scissors. My wife said she put hers in our paper shredder (an inexpensive household model) and it worked fine. I'm reluctant to try that because I don't want to break the shredder. The suggestion upthread of using tin snips would definitely work. I'm also thinking of using the grinder attachment on my power drill. A few seconds with the wire brush wheel should remove the magnetic strip and chip.

I put a chip card in an Iron Mountain shredder box a couple months ago. Now I'm wondering if I broke their industrial shredder.

You can bring the card to your local Chase branch and they'll destroy it for you.
