Help with Marriott Schaumberg?
Hi Everyone,
I need your help. My wife and I will be travelling to Schaumburg (aka larger Chicago area) to have a congenital defect corrected for her, which they sadly don't offer here in Canada.
Does anyone have any reviews of the Marriott Schaumburg? I usually never push room upgrades (I find its fairly futile in the US, compared to Canada anyway), but this is the one time it's really important to me, since I want her to re-coup well. Any suggestions on how to get this? Contact hotel ahead of time? Who do I ask? Would you just ask for the nicest room in the hotel and claim your platinum status?
Thanks, like I said, I'm usually not too big on these things.

There are some reviews in this thread, although some might have more recent experiences.

I would contact the hotel in advance & explain the situation. A few years ago my sister was having some out-patient surgery (she had breast cancer) & we were going to stay at a RI near the hospital. Upgrades to 2-bedrooms aren't the norm, but I called the property, explained the situation & asked if they could do so since I wanted her to have her own room/be able to recoup/sleep. I think I mentioned my Plat status, but did not do it in a DYKWIA kind of way & said I'd be grateful/appreciative of any help they could provide. I also said I was aware it was based on availability, but again would appreciate any help they could provide. It probably helped that we were only there overnight, but I did get the 2-bedroom upgrade.
How long will you be staying there? If it's for multiple days they're less likely to upgrade you to a suite (property only has 4), but if it's only for a few days they might do so. You could use the having the extra room so she can rest in the bedroom while you're in the main section of the suite line (which would be true). Again, it's due to surgery, you don't normally ask, you'd be grateful, appreciate it, anything to make recuperation go better. If nothing else, ask for a quiet room away from elevator & any traffic noise.
Good luck to you & your wife.
Cheers.

I would suggest trying Renaissance across the street from them. More suites available. However all their executive suites are queen (not king) Murphy bed. So that might be a drawback. But they are bigger rooms.

I personally don't like that Marriott. We ran into a major group issue there and their GM (won't mention name) refuses to even call us. In the end, Marriott corporate had to get involved, noticed we were correct and immediately rectified the issue. Given this, I wouldn't count on them caring much. The old owners were very nice, but this new group that owns that hotel has turned it into a crap hole. If you want, I would be happy to share pictures with you (there were holes in the walls where you could see into the other persons rooms, including a bathroom to giving rooms that were other renovation out to guests with half finished products).
However, if you are looking for an upgrade, you'll probably be placed on their Concierge Levels (they have three floors at that Marriott). They were always good with that when I was there. However, never been upgraded to a suite.
The poster above notes the Ren, which is about 2 miles away, but I would agree is a much better hotel option for that area.

OP could try to call the hotels to talk to someone in authority and ask how many points or how much money it would take to confirm an upgrade in these circumstances.
