Pointsavers using a free night certificate

I'm trying to book a category 2 hotel that only has Pointsaver availability using a category 1 - 4 certificate.

It doesn't give me an option to use the certificate online so I made the reservation and e-mailed Marriott.

They said there are unable to apply the certificate and I should call them. Same thing on the call. They said I may not be able to use the certificate since it's a Pointsaver award night. They've asked me to call back tomorrow during business hours to see if any one can help.

In the past whenever a similar situation arose a quick e-mail and they were able to refund the points and use the cert.

Does any one have any recent experience? Is there a specific e-mail or number I should contact?

It's times like these I wish that Marriott Concierge was not just post only but also helped with issues like the Starwood Lurker!

Thanks!

How many nights are you trying to book? You can only use cert for one night obviously, so for a Cat2 point saver that's not great value.

1 night. Not a great value but I can't use it anywhere else before it expires so it's better than letting it go to waste!

After multiple phone calls and e-mails I was finally able to find a Marriott Rewards rep who was able to switch it out for me.

FWIW, they extended one of mine for a year when I asked.

Good to know! Will call and e-mail them again to see if they are willing to extend it.
