"A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel"

Do I get this right - paid stay is 2 nights minimum ?

I tried to change "the unexpected bonus" , received the following reply:

"Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding the 2013 Fall MegaBonus Promotion. I see you are a Gold Elite member. Thank you for your valued loyalty and continued patronage.

Our records indicate you are enrolled in the 2013 Fall MegaBonus Promotion. Earning dates begin September 15, 2013, and end January 15, 2014. Selection criteria for each version of this promotion were determined by the Marriott Rewards Marketing department for the purpose of obtaining research regarding travel trends. As part of this research, unlike past promotions, Marriott Rewards Guest Services can not change our members into the offer you are requesting.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and for choosing Marriott.

Sincerely,

Got an offer for 2 Cat 1-4 certs instead of the 2 Cat 1-5 certs that I usually receive. My partner got the usual Cat 1-5 cert offer. If they don't upgrade me to the better offer, I will not even register for the promo. All stays going to IHG now in Q1 2014.

I think Marriott would be better off not having the Megabonus promo rather than pissing off elites with offers for Cat 1-4 certs.

Hell...I'd be happy to get the Cat 1-4 certs instead of my new 15 nights for one Cat 5 night. Hyatt keeps gifting me Plat...I may actually try to use them in the spring.

Plat here. Changing from 40k points to the cat 5 certs was a breeze over the phone.

To follow up, Gold here, was able to change from the 40k to the Cat 5 certs as well. Thanks Marriott.

Sometimes I think my irrational fear of dealing with them comes unconsciously from experiences calling airlines.

Platinum here. Received the Category 1-4 offer (with a max of two certs). Called and switched to the Category 1-5 offer (with a max of two certs).

I do not understand the logic of having the exact same offer other then a one category difference. I would think everyone would rather have a category 1-5 instead of 1-4 certificate and since this time around both max out at two certificates, just doesn't make sense.

What does that mean? That they want to run experiments to see if we will stay at Marriott less if they give us a promo that requires less nights? They don't need to run an experiment, just ask me! They gave me the 40k version, so they will get fewer stays out of me than if they had given me the 55k version. No research needed, there's my answer!
