Posting Of Points: Is it Linked To Spending?

I am new to Marriott and a little baffled with earning of points.

I recently stayed at a Residence Inn for 11 nights and my total bill for my stay was approx 1800 Euros, I have only received 7432 Base points for this stay.

I recently stayed at a Marriott for 5 nights, the total bill for this stay was 824 Euros and I have received 10,283 Base points for this stay.

Surely this is some mistake as I would have thought that points are linked to spending at hotel and room rate.

Can somebody please offer me an insight into earning points at Marriot properties.

At some Marriott brands, you earn earn 10 Marriott Rewards points per U.S. dollar spent on the room. At others, you earn earn only 5 Marriott Rewards points per U.S. dollar spent on the room.

In addition, at some Marriott brands, you earn Marriott Rewards points only on the room rate. At others, you also earn points for other expenses charged to the room (such as hotel restaurant meals).

For details, see http://www.marriott.com/rewards/earn-points/points.mi

At Residence Inn you get 5points/$ spent (taxes and incidentals not included). At full service property (Marriott) you get 10points/$ spent and incidentals are included (taxes are not).

Hence the difference.

yep, full service- full pts, at the others just points for the room, and some of them at a lower multiplier.
