I normally only read about every fifth post here.
To make a judgement about the ned for moderation, I did just now, read through the last 15 posts and haven't found any 'nasty' comments or real annoying hijackings of threads.

Are you lobbying for the job?
Actually the Marriott forum is one of the most civilized on FlyerTalk, and I have seen very few examples of bad behaviour. Other than the usual rants about searching, people seem to get along pretty well here.

Agree with the 'less is more' crowd. I find things perk along at a much slower pace on this forum than the airline FF forums, and that's o.k. Everything in moderation, except Marriott forum.

I think socrates is alarmed because I've recently joined the Marriott forum.
But seriously, this seems (to me, at least) to be one of the more staid and civilized fora of the bunch. I've only been hanging around here for a couple of months, but I've yet to see anything that would even give me a hint of things getting out of hand.

No, this forum doesn't need a moderator. The only time I'd want to see one is if a lot of threads are getting hijacked or if people are misposting junk here. The flammability of this board is low by FT standards and very, very low by broader 'Net standards. (That's a prop for the FT crowd at large - we generally have strong content and low noise all around. Even OMNI is relatively mild compared to most stuff out there.)
I think the "<Program> sucks - I'm converting to <Other Program>" threads are on every board. There are always people flowing back and forth amongst the big hotel and FF programs, and they all have their honks and haters.

I agree that there is no need for a moderator here.
I find this to be a very helpful board and can cite a lot of examples where it has helped me out and saved me money, but very few examples of threads I have stopped reading as they were getting out of hand.

Nope we don't. This is one of the better forums, & some recent stuff aside, will probably stay that way. And I think when folk go a bit overboard, the rest chime in & get it back on track.
Do we need an official Marriott lurker (w/ all due respect to socrates who does it unofficially)? Yes, but that's been covered in other threads & doesn't look like it's going to happen.
