For 250K you can get a certificate for 120K skymiles and a 7 night Marriott hotel certificate for almost any Marriott resort in the world, with the exception of a few, the category 7s that Marriott has. All Marriott Hawaii resorts are 6s.

Last I checked it was 60K 1st class per ticket to Hawaii, but that may have went up to 75K recently. At the very least, you can get 2 first class upgrades, which is a great value as well.

I think the certificates are 087 or 089, one of those, I'm pretty sure.

Regards.

There are three packages wwhich will get you 120k miles (on most major airlines, some airlines have different scales), and include a 7-night hotel stay.

083 (235k) = 120k and 7 nights at a Category 5
087 (250k) = same but for a category 6
091 (270k) = ditto, category 7.

Most Hawaii locations are Cat6's, with a couple of 5's.

Anytime packages are also available which are the same thing but include a Stay Anytime 7 night award cert, useful if you need to worry about blackout dates etc.

However, not too knowledgeable about howmany miles it takes to get to Hawaii esp. on the higher classes.

The travel package awards are definitely the way to go here. 250k MR points, redeemed for ailine miles, nets only 100k miles. Redeemed for the travel package award, one gets 120k miles and 7 free Marriott nights in a Cat 6. All you need to do for the transfer is to call MR to redeem the award and tell them which FF account you want the miles transferred to. The miles are transferred within a few days and the hotel certifcate (as well as a few other goodies) are mailed to you.

I believe that United is the only major still offering 60k business class awards to Hawaii. Delta still has first class awards to Hawaii for 60k each, but these must be redeemed by March 16th. After that, they go up to 75k each, matching AA, NW, and CO. I am unaware of any airlines which offer business class awards to Europe for less than 80k each.

I appreciate the replys ...this is my first experience with FlyerTalk and it has been most helpful.

I plan to take the 087 award and transfer the air miles to existing FF account for first / business to Hawaii.

Flew First from East Coast to Hawaii several times (thanks to the triple miles days) and did coach once ... never again!

Couple of questions on this post:

1) What if you need more than 120K airline points for your trip? do you get another say 120K airline miles (or more) at 235K marriott points and another 7-day hotel certificate?

2) After getting the cert. in the mail, can you change the reservation date or is the cert just "open" and just check the hotel then for availability?

3) IF changeable hotel cert. does it have an expiration date associated with it? (i.e. 1 year)

Hi

1) You can redeem as many travel packages as long as you have enough MR points. Each package will give the X amount of miles and 7 nights.

2) You will need to make a booking when you order your travel package. You can always make it far into the future and then change the property and date later.

3) You have one year to use the hotel portion but you can get an extension for another year. You must call MR and they will cancel the old cert and issue a new one good for another year.

BTW, if you are not sure what hotel you want to stay at redeem for the 1-5 cat and if you need a cat 6 or 7 you can always upgrade with the additional points. You can upgrade but NOT downgrade your hotel cat.

If you need any further info... just ask

Hello,

All the suggestions in this thread are good ones. Once you have confirmed with the airline on how many miles you would need, then you can choose which travel package would work best for your needs.

The Travel Package rewards will be the best value to you if you use both the airline portion and the hotel portion for your stay. We have some wonderful properties in Hawaii.

To clarify, it is illegal to sale your Marriott Rewards Certificates on E-bay.

Thank you,

Marie

So if I need a 250K+ miles and say 2 rooms for Category 5, I need 3 code 0830 then to cover the mileage portion?

CO has some 37,500 mile / each way first class saver tickets if you look around various travel dates. Most likely you won't be able to get them both ways, but you can combine a 37.5K with a 75K for a round trip....

3 0830 for 705K points.

Or you could do 2 0830 to cover 2 rooms for 7 nights and 240K miles and then use a mileage rewards 790 which will convert 30K points into 10K miles.. This option would cost 500K Marriott rewards points.

I'm not sure if these would work for you since in your OP you mentioned only having 300K. You do have the option of purchasing points up to 50K a year. Also you may transfer points in from a friends or family members account at the time ordering the rewards.

Your best bet may be to order one travel package and to cover a portion of the expenses for your trip.

I hope this helps,

Marie
