since marriott is based here in d.c. there are a heck of a lot of marriotts and courtyards here. one of the questions for anyone who comes is whether they want to stay downtown (which is fairly quiet at night) e.g. the jwm or stay where it is a not at quiet at night. DC is small so it's not like it takes forever, but some of the hotels are walking distance to stuff at night. others are cab or metro rides

I've stayed there a few times, even though I'm from the area. I like it - it is your average Marriott, but it's got a pretty good location & is local to nightlife. Parking is expensive as hell (20/night) so if you'll be there on the weekend, park on the street. I've been upgraded to an executive king suite two of the 6 times I've stayed there & I have no status - of course, it was on weekends, so like all hotels in DC, they weren't completely full.

If we are, in fact, talking about the Washington Marriott on 22nd, then I'm afraid I have to give it a big thumbs down. I'm not hard to please, and I typically have nothing negative to say about any of the Marriott brands, but I stayed at the Washington Marriott for business in May, and had a generally terrible stay. The walls of my room were so thin that I could hear the couple next door having sex all night (not that there's anything inherently bad about having sex in a hotel room, but I don't want to hear it when I have an 8am meeting).

Additionally (and this is by far the most egregious offense), the front desk folks were incredibly rude and condescending to me. I should mention that I am only 25 and I look like I'm 17, but that doesn't give anyone the right to treat me like garbage. I'm a Marriott Silver member, and I spend quite a bit of my own and my company's money at Marriotts, so the least I deserve is to be treated respectfully despite my age. I worked as a front desk person at a Residence Inn during a summer in college, so I'm acutely aware of how disspiriting it can be to have that job, and as such, I am nothing but polite to the front desk.

Sorry for the tirade, but since the Washington Marriott is really the only Marriott where I have ever had a negative experience, I thought I'd get it off my chest.

I would stay at the Mayflower over the rest of the d.c properties. The location is right next to the Farragut North Metro station. The property has so much charm. If you are platinum, they will try to upgrade you to a suite if it is available. They also have the best bartender in the world at the bar(Town and Country) especially if you like a good martini. If your nice he has fabulous magic tricks he will do.

This is truly shocking for me to hear!

I have been there often and was again just a few weeks ago. I have always found the Wash DC Marriott folks to be just super.

They, like many of the area Marriotts, have many trainees from Asia on 18 month contracts, often from the Philipines, and it seems they are universally excellent in my experience!

Ken, who I believe is the Fronk Desk supervisor/manager has always been just superb! There is another gentleman from Az, who is also great, IMHO (Perhaps Matt?)

Is there perhaps more to the story?

I'm sorry to hear that you felt this way having received subpar treatment and were not pleased in any case.

I would urge you to try again!

-Mark

Well, Mark, I'm afraid I can't remember any names as it has been several months since I last stayed there. To be fair, its location is great, and as it is close to my company's DC office, I will likely stay there again. I suppose we all have bad days, so given that you had a positive experience there, I will chalk it up to a fluke. But I still maintain that the walls are unduly thin....

Key Bridge and Crystal City in VA often have very good AAA and AARP rates and are easily accessible to DC via subway. Also, Courtyards and Residences can be good over there. Consider them as alternatives.
