Marriott Anaheim experiences?
Does anyone happen to have any experience with the Marriott Anaheim? I'm there for a convention in October and am trying to decide between this and the Anaheim Hilton.
I'm silver with Marriott and Gold with Hilton. Looks like I can book the Marriott Executive floor room which includes club access breakfast and evening hor d'oeuvre's as well for about 20$ extra a day but is still within my company's limits. Is this worth it? Looks like Marriott has high-speed internet available wheareas Hilton doesnt..that could be the deal maker. I rarely if ever stay at Marriott so am not quite sure what to expect at this location. Thanks!

The Anaheim Marriott is one of my favorite hotels in the chain. We have been upgraded to the concierge floor there several times although only lowly silver. Try and get a room on a high floor, north side of the hotel, grab a drink in the late evening and enjoy the fireworks display from Disneyland outside your window. Unfortunately, they've done away with their own classy trolley service to Disney in favor of a contractor with less-attractive buses. They used to also shuttle guests to other area attractions such as Anaheim stadium or the Duckpond. Best line ever from one of their shuttle drivers: "And across the road folks you'll see the Anaheim Hilton, also known as the box the Marriott came in." Still chuckle when I pass by either hotel.

Thanks yyzflyer. Actually I booked the concierge floor for $20 more/night than a standard room ($10 more than the exec floor) so it sounds like I wont be disappointed. I didnt want to risk being silver and trying to get the upgrade since it's not in their "official" benefits. By the way, was the breakfast good on the concierge floor? I've never been in the lounge at a Marriott. Is breakfast served there or do you get a voucher for breakfast in the hotel restaurant downstairs?
Since I'm there for 5 days I think I'd rather stay here even if I'm not earning HHonors points. Maybe Marriott will have a new customer. Thanks for your insight.

The concierge lounge at the Marriott is one of the best ones I've been at. There is great selection at breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvre, plus the room is staff is very pleasant and attentive.

We were in Anaheim in June and stayed accross the street at the Hilton.
The Marriott used the city "red" trolleys, and they had good service. I found myself hopping on the Marriott shuttle, because the dedicated Hilton shuttle and the Marriott shuttle schedules complimented each other.
The Mariott shuttle only makes one stop on the way to the Marriott. Service was very good.

The Anaheim Marriott is a wonderful place.
They recently redid their lobby area to have more seating for breakfast.
The Hilton has a nice dinner buffet (not open on Sunday). In fact, I would say that the Hilton buffet is better than the Marriott buffet, meal for meal.
the concierge lounge is nice, often crowded, and the food served is good and plentiful. If they run out of food in the lounge they order more (Renaissance Madison in seattle, take note).
You will like this property.
A few years ago, we tried to get in and couldn't and wound up staying nearby at the Town Place Suites. Blech

I was there for a week in May. Very nice health club- redone while I was there. Nice lobby and con level. Hilton was nice too but did not see their rooms. My room at the Marriott was above average for a Marriott properity.

Anaheim Marriott has great beds for a Marriott, fluffy comforters and wonderful pillows. My dad somehow got upgraded to the concierge floor on a Priceline stay and said the lounge was wonderful. Hilton rooms are bigger, however, but this shouldn't matter if you are by yourself. Hilton dedicated shuttles are gone now; they said Disneyland is forcing them to use the same politically correct propane-powered city trolleys the Marriott uses. They are, frankly, very uncomfortable for anyone over age 10.

Thanks for all the responses! Sounds like I made the right decision. Dont plan on going to Disneyland since I'm there for a conference, but might have to catch the fireworks from the Lounge. Thanks again.

I've stayed at the Marriott Anaheim two weeks ago and also back in May. While I was staying there the last time, at the parking deck behind the hotel they searched my trunk every time upon entering. Maybe because of the DARPA (Defense contractors) convention going on at the time, they were just being cautious. Great service, great comfortable beds / comforters. Both my stays were priceline. No points or credit for the stays to boost my lowly Silver, but I couldn't pass up the ridiculously low priceline bid rates this hotel is accepting. My only complaint is that they overcharged me on various items each stay and each time at checkout I had to correct the overbilling.

Just to add my 2 cents worth regarding the Anaheim Marriott....hotel has recently undergone major renovations in the lobby and pool areas. Guest rooms were very nice, staff helpful and hotel was kept in excellent condition. Staff in the Concierge Lounge was terrific.... look for Georgianne, she was wonderful.
djefvert...do you happen to be attending the Xplor conference in October?

Hi Flyerwife, I'm actually attending MEC which is a Microsoft conference in October.
I'm looking forward to my first stay in the executive lounge. Any good restaurants close by or even in the hotel?

djefvert,
the Anaheim Marriott Hotel does have Cafe del Sol for dinner (which I didnt eat in, but looks nice and was well recommended) and the requisite JW's Steakhouse.
Most of our meals during the stay were over at the Disney parks or Downtown Disney area.
