From Marriott web site:
"A "stay" is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity."

Can someone put this into layman's terms for me? I've seen this with other programs, but it confuses the heck out of me. Thanks.

It means you can't stay at the same hotel for five days straight, check-out and check back in each day and receive separate stay credits for the stay, it all counts as one stay.

Check into "hotel A" on Monday, check out on Tuesday. Check into "hotel A" on Tuesday, out on Wednesday. Check into "hotel A" on Wednesday, check out Thursday. That amounts to 3 nights, 1 stay at "hotel A"

Check into "hotel A" on Monday, check out on Tuesday. Check into "hotel B" on Tuesday, out on Wednesday. Check into "hotel A" on Wednesday, check out Thursday. That's 2 nights and 2 stays at "hotel A", 1 night/1stay at "hotel B".

The past 2 weeks, I've been in DFW. Due to the FFN at Hyatt and the free weekend at Marriot, I've done the following:
Week 1: Monday check into the Hyatt DFW airport for 1 night. Tuesday, Marriott DFW North for 2 nights. Thursday, Hyatt DFW airport.
Week 2: Monday-Marriott, Tuesday Hyatt, Thursday Marriott

Total score: 1.5 free Hyatt nights, 1 free Marriot Weekend.

Doing the same the weeks of 11/4, 11/11, 11/18.

Yeah, it's a pain to pack/unpack, Mrs Bonzaiflyer thinks I've lost it, co-workers know I've lost it.

Also, I get to score more Marriott Plat check in amenities, and Hyatt Diamond Amenities.

Not sure where I'm going, but I'm getting there fast.

Thats ok bonzaiflyer, I can relate and I don't think you've lost it at all... Good work maximizing the freebies and stay credits at the Hyatt.

I do this all the time with Hilton, Spg and MR
