I'm also curious
I'm also very curious about what site this is. Been dealing with quirks in travel sites for ages and have really never heard of anything like this. Could you also send me a private message letting me know what site it is and possibly a sample hotel?
Again, just really curious.

Hey folks. You do realize that PM works both ways, right? - ie, instead of bumping up the thread to ask Dirk to PM you, you could PM Dirk & ask him directly.

Cheers.

Cheers.

I think asking for a PM from Dirk is kind of a courtesy, so Dirk can reply to them if/when he would like to. I saw some FTer complained on other threads that their inbox was flooded with PMs after they have posted something interesting.

It could be interesting to book the room on the competing site, show up, and then insist that they charge the correct actual taxes. The site/hotel can add fees if they're disclosed, but they can't charge an arbitrary amount in taxes just keep the excess that they're not required to pay to the government.
