Upgrade to "concierge" at Renaissance?
Will be staying at a Renaissance soon and was wondering if Marriott GLD status entitles me to upgrade to a "concierge floor-equivalent"? If so, does it help to call in advance and ask for the upgrade?
Thanks
Thanks

... and "No" to your second question. Upgrades are granted on an as available basis upon check-in, as usual.

Yeps! Yes, and then no!
And you should be provided key access to the lounge in the worse case scenario.

Keep in mind, too, that the lounge benefits do not usually apply to Renaissance Resorts (like Wailea).

What do you think the chances of a lowly "Silver Elite" getting a room upgrade at a R in Hotlanta?

I didn't know that Wailea had a lounge? When I asked they told me that they didn't. To go one step further, I do not recall being at a 'resort' that had a lounge

ops: Sorry, I meant to say that that lounge benefits don't exist at Wailea because the lounges themselves don't exist. That also means that the free-breakfast benefit that goes along with club-lounge access doesn't exist either.

On a few of occasions, I've faxed in an advance request for a room upgrade or bump up to the Concierge Floor -- I think the upgrade has been approved in advance most of the time.
As mentioned previously, even if you don't get it, you'll still be able to get lounge access. And, in many hotels, the only things you'd be missing out on would be mouthwash, q-tips, kids sneaking up the stairs to the top floor (I used to be one of them), and a robe.
