Nights count double again?

I finally got my Silver Elite card for 2002 the other day. The letter that comes with the card says that if you had stays during the first quarter of 2002 that counted double for requalification for this year, that they also count double for requalification for next year.

The number of nights tabulation showing for my account on marriottawards.com does not reflect this. Anyone else run into this?

There was an earn double points and double nights promotion starting with your second stay until 3/31/02 (enrolment requested), payment must be made with a Visa card. If you met this criteria, double points that you earned from 1/1/02 to 3/31/02 should be shown on your account and this double nights will apply to 2003 status.

This had nothing to do with that promotion. Because of the post-9/11 travel taper-off, nights from 1/1/02 from 3/31/02 counted double for elite re-qualification, and what they're saying (in the letter, not on the web site) that the same days count double for 2003 elite re-qualification as well.

I finally got my Platinum Elite card valid until 01/03 the other day. The letter that comes with the card said: If you participatided in the Double Nights/Double Points promotion, the nights you stayed with us between January 1, 2002 and March 31, 2000 will count twice, putting you that much closer to achieving Platinum level status for 2003.

My "Nights Credited Toward Elite Membership" on the web site match my actual stay nights for this year, includingthe "double" of nights through March 31.

Maybe you should read the letter one more time, RichG.

My gold card is good thru 2004. So requalification is moot for 03 (unless i go for plat)

Rich -

I have a similar letter. But my "Nights Credited Toward Elite Membership" on the web site match my actual stay nights for this year, including the "double" of nights through March 31.

Rich,

The nights I earned from Jan-March have counted as "double" for me. My web site statement shows a total of 16 nights so far this year, and I have only 8 paid nights (7 in Jan-March timeframe, 2 after).

Sean

a simple way to get your silver status, regardless of how many nights you stay at marriott, is to have one of their visa cards, offered through first usa, i believe. If they are doubling up, and giving frequent flyers the same benefits as those who don't travel as much, but take advantage of those few benefits, what good is it to be a frequent flyer with the chain?

David, MR Silver really doesn't give you much in the way of benefits. You need to be Gold before you start seeing significant bennies.

Honestly, I don't think that there's any sort of benefit erosion going on, so long as Gold and Platinum aren't given away in like manner. OTOH, I'd be interested in knowing how many people managed to get themselves "promoted" an additional level based on the double-double offer. I was already Plat, but due to the offer, I'm just short of 240 nights on the year now.

I made gold for the first time ever due to the double promo. I had been silver each year for many years before that. I travel at my own expense so it is likely this will be my only time to be gold - unless there is another promo.
