Cancel Points Reservation...Is Refund Immediate?

I had made a points reservation for a Fairfield Inn, then canceled it on Thursday evening, and still have not gotten the points back. Is it supposed to be immediate or does it take a few days to process?

at anytime I've CXLed a points res it's always shown back in my acc't immediately............... that being said, did the res have a CXL date that you exceeded (ie. some points reservations are required to be CXLed 1-7 days prior to the arrival date, various dates depending on property, so if you missed the mandatory CXL date you would have blown the points refund)?

Just looking at an upcoming point res of mine it says:
You may cancel your reservation for no charge until September 5, 2012 (1 day[s] before arrival). and if I don't CXL prior to the stated date expect to loose the points used.............

Sometimes, it doesn't work properly due to the award certificate not being returned to the account along with the cancelled award reservation. That is when you need to call an agent for help.

I've cancelled two awards in the last 48 hour nd neither set of points ha credited.

I suspect a system glitch.

maybe it's the same system glitch that's causing the rates to be displayed as high to low (instead of the reverse as previously displayed).............

Depending on the type of certificate that was used, it may take several days to be returned to your account. It is also possible for the certificate itself to remain on your account without the points being returned. The certificate should still be valid to use for any other stay. If you would rather have the points on your account then the certificate, you should be able to contact Marriott Rewards support who can make the change for you.

I just used points and I was not given a replacement certificate or anything like that. I had to call but had no problem getting the points back.

I suspect a cancelled reservation, but not a cancelled reward. So, calling was the right thing to do. Glad to hear you got your points back without a problem.^
