** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
  • 1 Night Stay Certificate for a Category 1-5 Marriott Hotel
  • 15 Night Stay Credit towards elite status

** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **

By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:

• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.

• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.

If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.

If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018

As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.

Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.

If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

Tips:
  • Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
  • Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
  • Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
  • You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
  • When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
  • If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
  • YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
  • If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
  • If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
  • You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches
    http://www.marriott.com/rewards/poin...dType=Standard
    http://www.marriott.com/hotel-search.mi
  • 2017 Marriott Rewards Category/Tier Update: On March 7, 2017, 23% of our hotels and resorts will change category.

Offer looks great, really considering getting such a card.

The big tease was that on the Marriott Rewards site, even though as a Canadian resident, they show the US card offer (80k bonus points in stead of 50k + 1 free credit night at every 3000$ spend).

Now, that would be really interesting to get a night credit at every 3000$ (especially since we're paying a whole lot more for our Visa card here). Did anyone try to negotiate this with Marriott? (Even though IMHO negotiating will lead to nothing, since Chase Canada probably doesn't have a mechanism in place to get those night credits added.)

The current U.S. offer is 85 annual fee not waived for 87k points (after authorized user bonus) versus the Canadian one of no annual fee first year for 50k and a category 4 night.

Renewal fees of 120 cad vs 85 USD isn't that far off, current exchange rates puts it at 91 USD

My experience applying from the US:

online application works, followed by 3 security questions online. As expected, no auto approval.

Called on the same day. The rep will transfer you to security dept, and answer 3 more security questions. Then transferred back to the first rep, then got approved. This call took about 20 min.

There should have been a number on the page that says your application is pending or declined. Otherwise, you can call the main Chase number and ask to be transferred. You may have gone pending due to having applied from US and the IP address is not from Canada. It happened to me and I was approved.

Also on a related note - anyone know if an AU uses their card it triggers the 50K bonus? I haven't been able to use my card as I have been travelling, but my AU has used it, was wondering if I will get the bonus or if the primary card holder needs to put charges on their card. If this is the case, I'll just pay a bill online or something - but wanted to check here before doing that.

Not sure, but my gut feeling is that it can be ANY spending txn, not just from the primary card, since all txns will show up from all associated cards in the primary card account. But, if you're in a rush to get the points, then better make that token $1 online bill payment today, so that it hits the account before the 11th, so that you can be assured of seeing the 50K posted on this month's statement. If not in a rush, then just wait it out, spend the $1 elsewhere!

BTW, if you were intending to use your new Chase card during your current out-of-Canada travels (for the no forex fees), you probably won't be able to use it at any merchants that enforce the chip-pin technology. Reason: you're required to use it at least ONCE at a chip-pin terminal while in Canada, to prime the PIN onto the card during its first use.

Thanks . I remember this and that's why I told my AU to use it in Canada with pin before there trip!

I'll see if I get the bonus without making any txns as I am curious and don't need it the points right away.

I would like guidance on if I should re-apply to the Chase Marriott. I cancelled the card mid-February 2016, but would like to re-apply in order to get the bonus for an upcoming booking in August 2016. Based on what I have read, some people were successful to get the bonus more than once if they applied at least 6 months after their cancellation. Anyone had any success getting the bonus by re-applying after only 3 months?

YMMV, nobody knows

Chase does have the right to re-open your old account within 6 months

The re-application story for my wife: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/26209326-post822.html

That being said, if I had to do it again, I would wait closer to 6 months, as I only reapplied so soon for her based on the quick fear from not being able to apply directly on chase.ca web page, and not wanting her not to get the card back - we always get at least $125 USD value for the certificate, so just getting that in a year was worth it for us even if the points didn't come through. But I was definitely hoping for the points.

Update: I received the bonus without having to use my card. Any transaction from any card tied to the account seems to trigger the bonus!

If so, then you won't get the free night again
