** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
  • 1 Night Stay Certificate for a Category 1-5 Marriott Hotel
  • 15 Night Stay Credit towards elite status

** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **

By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:

• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.

• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.

If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.

If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018

As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.

Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.

If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

  • Free night stay e-certificate Category 1-4 hotels upon approval for first-time Cardmembers - is NO LONGER OFFERED, as of October 1st, 2016

Tips:
  • Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
  • Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
  • Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
  • You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
  • When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
  • If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
  • YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
  • If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
  • If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
  • You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches

  • 2017 Marriott Rewards Category/Tier Update: On March 7, 2017, 23% of our hotels and resorts will change category.

I got declined (due to my credit file with Equifax, not sure what it meant)

cancelled Sept 2013
applied last week with Jeff's link (so within 6 months)
Declined this week
Hoping a card will show up in mailbox later :P

fine, I'll just use my other cards in Europe then and eat the 2.5% Forex fee

call in and ask, my dad got declined but he called and got approved. should have asked him what his original reason for getting declined was (i'm assuming to many inquires heh) but definitely call in and ask. unless you're churning, then that's a different story. but from their terms it shoudln't mean that you get declned but rather you get the card with no bonus.

Go for the other of their cards for that, like Sears MC. No fees and you get 1% in points for all purchases and 2% at Sears.

Funny enough, I did call this morning and the advisor told me I was declined
then I saw the reply in lettermail in the afternoon, saying declined again

I think there's Chase Amazon or Sears is all the same credit check process, no point applying for other Chase cards for now. I heard Amazon was hard to approve or low limit also

Advisor told me to re-apply after 6 months, we'll see

I don't exactly blame them, I've applied too many CC since Sept 2013 too
TD, CIBC, AMEX, BMO, etc... should let my credit scores recovery first

I think I'm the only one that did 50k in 2012 and 30k in 2013. Will know by March 18th if my husband was successful as well.

And I should note to the people getting declines: he received a decline letter in the mail and oddly enough the card about three weeks later. Cancelled his first card in Aug 2013 and reapplied in late Jan/early Feb.

When I tried to re-apply, I wasn't declined because of my credit rating. It was because Chase pulled it out of the queue, stating that I would not get the promo points, e-cert nor waived fees. They said they would gladly reactivate the card for me (cancelled for ~6 months), but no promo offerings.

So, shake, please let us know if your husband gets the waived fees in addition to the new promo points...by now, he would have seen the e-cert in his Marriott account too, right?

I received the elite nights, no annual fee and 30k points when I churned. No e-certificate. But my renewal cert did hit my account right before I cancelled last year so I consider it a wash.

So far he's received the elite nights, no fee has been charged (but statement also hasn't closed yet) and we'll know about the points on March 18th.

I should note I don't think they reactivated his old card, because they assigned him a limit almost double what his previous card was. (Likewise for me)

I just applied using Jeff's link, and got the non-instant approval message. 10 days wait... and then we'll see. Chase seems to be one of the hardest companies to deal with for credit cards.

I agree

Out of all applications/companies in Canada and high credit limits, I've only been declined by Chase (on my 2nd attempt for this card, within 6 months of cancellation).

Guess next time I may not cancel a Chase card to prevent this happening (as long as I can justify $120 for 1 Marriott hotel night yearly)

If I were you I would call them up tomorrow and just verify that the application went through correctly, and they may be able to tell you already if you've been approved or not. If yes, then wait the obligatory 10 biz days, and hopefully you get the card by the end of March. At the same time you can get them to verify that your application is correctly tied to your Marriott Rewards membership number, in case you keyed it in incorrectly during the application process.

Once you get the card, activate it and then make sure you spend something on the card by the 9th or 10th of the month, to ensure it gets posted to Chase before they cycle your bill on the 12th of the month...if you don't get at least $1 posted onto your first statement, then you'll have to wait another month to see the points. If you do squeeze in a purchase in time, then the statement cycles on the 12th, and you will see the Chase Visa bill online on the 13th/14th, and the points will appear at MARRIOTT.COM by the 18th or 19th.

Good luck.

So I called yesterday, and was told that I got approved! The free night certificate posted to my Marriott account yesterday night as well, and now I'm just waiting for my card to arrive. Hoping to book some rooms at the JW Marriott with it soon, and then my trip will be (mostly) set! ^
