Point Debit

I am furious with Marriott Rewards. I purchased points on 4/3 to get to 200k points, which they promptly processed. I then lost AMEX card on 4/6 which was used to buy aforementioned points.

I received a letter saying they could not post the charge on my AMEX. I checked AMEX statement and sure enough, they had indeed posted charge, AMEX paid Marriott, I paid AMEX.

I wrote an email to the person that sent me the letter explaining above. I went to check my MR on line statement and found post of a debit for 7,500 points for unpaid expense on 6/4. I have again sent an email to Marriott rewards explaining the above but IMHO this is terrible customer service and it may be the last straw for me with Marriott, especially after an awful stay in Chicago. Any ideas how to resolve this beyond what I've done?

Thanks!

No brilliant ideas, but although I like e-mail for many things, when there's a problem, I prefer to speak to a human being if possible (and then a supervisor, if needed), or go to the other extreme and send a real letter, with copies of all pertinent bills, etc.

A copy of your Amex statement should help Marriott fix this. The issue seems to be between Marriott and Amex, and the underlying problem could be coming from Amex. It shouldn't be your problem of course, but you may have to demonstrate to Marriott that you have paid Amex.

Believe me, AmEx's accounting department makes mistakes! This may NOT be the problem, but if you add a lost card into the same time frame, it seems possible.

Calling would be fast. You might be able to fax documentation in to Marriott and get your points reinstated pretty fast.

Otherwise, you have until 31 JULY to redeem the 200K award. That should be plenty of time to resolve the issue.

A letter to Corp couldn't hurt either.

For a relatively small sum, $75 or so, you can get an attorney to write the letter. Money well spent, in my opinion.

Thank you both for the advise - I really appreciate it!
