Changes to 200K award?
I've seen some grumbling about potential changes to the 200K (713). Currently I have 156K and only qualify for the 712 (1 free ticket, 5 nights). Any rumors about a change to that one? (I started a long thread about this a few months ago). If 712 is short lived, then maybe I should cash in on my ticket to OZ (no REALLY - I've gone there 3 years running and now want a FREE ticket - unless Marriott has changed and will let me go to India
on UAL).
Should I cash in on the 150K award or chance going for 200K? I'm at 156K. Just got the Marriott Visa (awaiting 5K); go to OZ in May and will try the 2 weekend stay (5k bonus); pobably another 5k between my stay, Visa bonus, etc. Then I guess I could buy 10% (20K) but I'm still a bit short. (I tried the AT&T Worldnet Bonus - nothing but problems, so I canceled).
Any recommendations???

For a maximum of $30 in "insurance", you can hedge your bets. Order the 712 now. At expiration you can extend it for a small fee. Best of all, you can redeposit your 712 any time before it expires for a fee of $30. The points would then be back in your account. So if you get the additional points needed for a 713 (and the point structure hasn't changed), you're there!

Since Marriott gives you frequent flier miles along with the hotel certificate, I thought you could only deposit the cert back at a downlevel rate -- for example, with the 200k award, you only get 50k back for the hotel portion, while technically on its own its worth 125K.
So I would think with a 150k award if you redeposit the hotel cert at most you'd get is also 50k, maybe even less since its a lower level award. I don't think you can 're-deposit' the miles they gave you on an airline back into your Marriott account.

You are correct about the miles. I forgot about that changed aspect of the program. To the extent an award is in certificates, they can be redeposited for full credit. But as you state, that would not apply to the portion of awards that include mileage deposits! Once the miles are in your airline account, they are yours and there's no going back!
