I too am waiting for the card from the move to Gold from Black.
I got no packet, nor any card or postcard but I did get an email from MR on Monday telling me to please contact them if I had not yet received my new credentials.
Soon, I'm sure!

17 nights at Marriotts and another 15-20 nights at Courtyards and Fairfields over the past 12 months earned me a Silver card.
Boy am I excited.

Husband got Gold by virtue of his new Rewards VISA. Was an undeserving Black. I am Silver though I have had no stays in years - also due to Rewards VISA.

I have been in the program since 1982 and I have earned well over 1 million points (I was platinum when they first started that program, although only gold for last few years). Not so much as a postcard yet.

Karen2: Did you mean that your husband had a VISA Card that qualified him for Gold (Under the new rule)? Is that a Platinum Card? Or the old Gold VISA???

Subject: new elite membership material
Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2000 13:42:31 +0200
From: Rudi Martel <[email protected]>
To: [email protected]
gruezi (= Hi in swiss german)
in an email-message you say:
By now you should have received your new elite membership card and Benefits Guide outlining all that you can expect as a Marriott Rewards Silver, Gold or Platinum member. (Your membership number has not changed.) If you have not received these materials, please contact your local Guest Services office via email at [email protected]
As I have not received anything yet (probably snail-mail to Switzerland takes much longer), please inform me by email of:
MY NEW STATUS LEVEL
and ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT ME TO KNOW (and I should take into consideration) before my next reservations/stays.
At my last week's stat att the Orange County Airport Marriott (Irvine), the check-in agent said, he would have upgraded me to the concierge level (but it was fully booked already, and anyway, the concierge-lounge was closed for the weekend ...). DOES MY NEW STATUS LEVEL ENTITLE ME FOR
UPGRADES TO THE CONCIERGE LEVEL?
Thank you
and greetings from far away Switzerland

Sorry to waste bandwidth but I have to tell *somebody* that I finally made Marriott Platinum status last week.

Another life goal has been achieved. Now all I have left to do is climb K2 and swim the Bering Strait.
Cheers!
Tim.

I called the Marriott Rewards desk a couple of times (several weeks apart) and got widely divergent answers on how many stays I have towards Platinum status for next year.
Does anyone know what the start date for counting stays for 2001 elite status is?

Rudi, I'm in the same boat. For all that "Silver" gives you (really nothing), I'll give my business to Hyatt & Starwood. For me it would take 75 nights to achive what I've already acomplished with my other programs--so while at times I am 'forced' to stay at various Marriott hotels, given the choice I'll stick with the others.

I spoke with a very helpful customer service agent at Marriott Rewards and he cleared up my questions. Here's the information I got:
Qualification for a new elite level is by "rolling year." In other words, to make Platinum, I have to have stayed 75 days in the past year, and stays "fall off" 365 days after they have been posted.
Qualification for an existing elite level are done by year to date. In other words, once you qualify for Platinum (or Gold, or Silver) level, the date you qualified becomes your elite renewal date and you will be renewed as long as you have 75 (or 50, or 25) days since that date.
Weren't those the same rules they had for elite qualification under the old program?
The only difference is that stays at Courtyards, Residence Inns, and other properties also count towards elite (which is a nice change).
The "rolling year" thing is so byzantine - who can remember what your stays were over the last 365 days? I guess it's time to start logging them...
Rudi: If you were Gold in the old program, you're Silver in the new one. If you were Black in the old one, you're Gold in the new one. (Platinum is still Platinum.) If you are gold or platinum, you are entitled to concierge level access and room upgrades under the new program. (Although in my experience, upgrades are difficult to come by at Marriott black (now gold) level.)
