Transfer points

I see that a spouse or domestic partner can transfer points to you? What do I need to do to receive the points? Can it be done only in 1K increments - I need 1400 points that I can get from my spouse.

Thanks,

- naroowal

Just give MR a call. They will fax you a form that you will need to fill out and sign one part. You will then need to have your spouse fill out and sign the other part. Once you have it completely filled out and signed by both of you, fax it back to Marriott.

And yes, if I remember correctly, you are correct in that the amount transferred will be in a 1000 increment (i.e. 2000 points probably in your case) and the amount will be just enough for you to order whatever award you need. (Note that you will need to order the award as part of the process as well.)

AFAIK, you can order any award and if you don't have the points, you can pull points from someone else's account (assuming the "someone else" is willing to let you have some of their points of course.)

Also note that while the T&Cs state this benefit is between spouse accounts, Marriott will actually allow you to pull points from any other account. So if you have a friend who has some points and wants to let you use them, you can pull points from their account as well.

Though I have never tried to pull points from more than one account, you could pull points from one account, then cancel the award. You will get all the points put into your account. Then order another award and pull points from a 3rd account. So it is probably doable if you have a couple of friends who want to give you their points.

IIRC Marriott has a 50,000 point limit/year on points that can be transferred into an account, regardless of sourse (ie, whether friend or spouse).

Cheers.

Are you positive about the 50K limit on "spouse" point transfers? I do believe you are correct for purchased points and gifted points. My understanding of gifted is that someone else purchases points that go directly into your account (i.e. not transferred points.) I didn't think there was a limit to the number of points that could be "transfered" into your account.

I'm pretty sure there's a limit per year, no matter the source. I've never had someone purchase points & deposit them into my account. Just transferred, and I remember there being a limit. We could ask MarriottConcierge to clarify though.

Cheers.

I went ahead and called the Plat Rewards line and talked with an agent. Basically, there is no limit to the number of points "transfered" each year. Given I currently have about half the points needed for a TP award, she said there was no issues with transferring the other 100K plus points into my account needed to order that award.

Also, she stated that if I then later in the year want yet another TP award, I can again transfer however many needed points into my account for that award.

The 50K limit is really just for purchased points, not for transferred points.
