My understanding of gifted is that someone else purchases points that go directly into your account (i.e. not transferred points.) I didn't think there was a limit to the number of points that could be "transfered" into your account.
I'm pretty sure there's a limit per year, no matter the source. I've never had someone purchase points & deposit them into my account. Just transferred, and I remember there being a limit. We could ask MarriottConcierge to clarify though.
