How do you do this? Go up and put $1 of the bill on your Visa? I can see that not being very popular.

In the past, all that was necessary was for the folio to be closed using a Visa, so in theory you could cover the majority of the bill using a different payment method, and then charge the remaining balance to a Visa.

So you can actually tell them to charge say 98% of the bill to one card and the rest to another? They do not charge your card until checkout.

I have the work around for this. PM me for details. As this gets discussed much more with each mb round, I am reluctant to post it in public for fear of changes.

I do this regularly; have them charge the room to my business cc and the incidentals to my MR card.

This comes up every year. Horrible Marriott for making it a Visa promo. They should make it Amex. Of course then the people who don't have Amex would be saying horrible Marriott for making it an Amex promo

The 'work-arounds' for still getting credit for the stays even if you have a corp Amex have been documented in previous threads so search is your friend, or PM PhillyFlyer40.

The elimination of gift cards qualifying does suck though. However, a similar work-around would probably work for those as well.

Cheers.

The 2 card system for VISA promos is very easy once you know what to do.

-During checkin, give them your AMEX/Giftcard and tell them to swipe it for the room & tax total.
-Then have them swipe any visa for incidentals.
-Pickup a candy bar / snack from the cabinet and add it to your room

This will charge the $1 candy bar on your visa and close out your bill to Visa and count to the promos.

I attempted the workaround multiple times at different hotels and it never worked out. So, I would not count on it.

That is because the information given in many previous posts in this thread as well as many other threads is incorrect. It only works ONE way. VERY SPECIFIC way....

So now we should start a separate "Trick It" thread for Marriott Visa Megabonus.
