No one here is calling for a boycott of Marriott.
Agreed. It's nothing to kill them over; just stating how strange, silly and incorrect sounding it is, and I'm seeing that most here more or less agree.

The thing that struck me as odd was the "authentic divine spirit" bit. As if you'd get that at any large hotel resort...LOL!!
Maybe they should have stuck with "Special offers during Ramadan." Everyone, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, would understand it's simply a time period when the hotel needs to fill rooms.
Anyway, not really a big deal...just an overzealous copywriter.

Agreed - we need to see all of the fall promos on the table before we go that far. @:-) Marriott will probably do a typical Megabonus. Looks like SPG is doing a 2x/3x promo, stackable with a couple other smaller things. Hilton will inevitably do something lame because that's what they always do, and then they'll devalue the program again. I wonder what Hyatt has up its sleeve...

- I'm a "Western tourist", and it conjures up no such image. Or maybe you're just referring to dumb, bigoted "Western Tourists"?
- Only Muslims are required to fast. Anyone else can and and drink as they please - preferably out of view of locals.

I am going to Egypt during Ramadan, flying out 19th August, for a fortnight.
Whatever you may believe about western tourists and their negative opinions of Ramadan doesn't alter the plain facts, Marriott has slashed the price on Red Sea rooms during the peak season ONLY during Ramadan. When I booked my original rate I saw the cost reduce by a third for the very day Ramadan commenced... As I said, in August these rooms should sell themselves, in exactly the same way as rooms in new York become very expensive during the Christmas season, yet this year, rooms at the Red Sea resorts can be purchased for as little as $50 night... Thats cheap, cheap, cheap, for August peak season.
But, as soon as Ramadan ends the rates reinflate.
I'll leave you to do the math. Ignorance, stupidity, or otherwise, during Ramadan the western hotels are finding it VERY difficult to attract the trade, so rates are softening.
Erm, make that collapsing...
