I am going to Egypt during Ramadan, flying out 19th August, for a fortnight.

Whatever you may believe about western tourists and their negative opinions of Ramadan doesn't alter the plain facts, Marriott has slashed the price on Red Sea rooms during the peak season ONLY during Ramadan. When I booked my original rate I saw the cost reduce by a third for the very day Ramadan commenced... As I said, in August these rooms should sell themselves, in exactly the same way as rooms in new York become very expensive during the Christmas season, yet this year, rooms at the Red Sea resorts can be purchased for as little as $50 night... Thats cheap, cheap, cheap, for August peak season.

But, as soon as Ramadan ends the rates reinflate.

I'll leave you to do the math. Ignorance, stupidity, or otherwise, during Ramadan the western hotels are finding it VERY difficult to attract the trade, so rates are softening.

Erm, make that collapsing...
