When exactly does the Global promotion end?
I know this must have been discussed endlessly, but I couldn't find a definitive answer.
I am in the Global 40k/25-nights promo, and I have a stay scheduled beginning on 8/31, the last day of the promo.
Does 8/31 count as a night in the promo? I will have 24 nights prior to the 8/31 stay, so it will make a 15k-point difference, since the promo also has a 25k/20-night level.

I am not an expert, but if the stay starts on 8/31 I think it should qualify.

Marriott Concierge answered a similar question in the past about a bonus promo that ran to April 30th, stating...
So on that basis, yes, August 31st stay would qualify...

Iv'e found that overlapping stays may not post automatically but a quick phone call sorts it out.

sorry if I am being thick here....
If I check in 31.8 for 2 nights - do both nights count towards the promo? I will be touch and go on making the 25 nights this bonus period so could use it..

The T&C's read:
There is no mention of stays needing to start or end within the time period like it did in earlier blunders by MR. Check your Promotion Central page after the stay posts and call if it does not include the appropriate nights.
Marriott Rewards members who register for this promotion by June 30, 2010, will earn 25,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights, plus an additional 15,000 bonus points after 25 paid nights up to a maximum 40,000 bonus points, made between June 1, 2010, and August 31, 2010, at a participating Marriott property.

Your stay starting 8/31 should count as 1 night/stay credit towards promotion. This is what I have been credited in a past promotion.

Same here and that was different from the Double Night promotion last year which included complete stays that started and ended during the period.
